IGN is reporting that the Japanese company Taito has secured rights to bring HL2 to arcades next summer.
Taito's Type-X arcade board will be getting some big-name support shortly. The arcade manufacturer revealed today plans to bring Half-Life 2 to arcades on the new board. The game is set for distribution in Japan in the Summer of 2005.
The article ends with the statement that there are only plans to release this in Japan. This move makes sense, as Japan still has an extremely active arcade world. [br]

Thanks to the countless forum members who pointed this out.

The more hl2 the more good news.

Kinda slow with the news? Strange. I thought the amount of news on this website was supposed to increase the sooner it got to release day. :|

It's the eye of the storm.

HL2 on arcade .. Well, it might be a hit. The more HL2 the merrier :)

how do they transfer extended single player FPS games to arcade format? do they shorten it down or change it to time crisis style?

That's funny because in America, arcades started to die off in the mid 1980s...but in Japan, they are still huge.

That would rock. I don't know what more to say. Arcades are so much fun, Hl2 + arcade = instant orgasm.

wait that would mean you could play hl2 for how much yen? and what would that be in dollars?

Seems like it wouldn't make sense unless you can save your game somehow?

in other news, THE KITTEN JIG HAS POWERS OVER YOU

omg hl2 coin op!! tobad it will only be availble in japan.

I am a arcade vendor, thoes from hls know this.

So I plan to follow up on this and see if I can get my hands on it.

more than likely it will have a outragous price tag like all the other game ports. My guss is around $6,000-$18,000.

My main complaint with the arcade industry these days are they take too dam long to port a game!
most recently I talked with the guys from GLOBAL VR at ASI and asked them about there new Need for speed game. They asked when I took first in there tournament how I did so well first try and I responded. I have beaten nfshp2 and thats all this game realy is. The guy said OH...... then I ask now why did it take you so long to port this and why are you telling me I should spend $12,000 on a game any of my customers could buy for $10 in the bargain bin? Needless to say I did not get a good answer.

But if I do decide to buy and import one I will let you guys know what I think and where I will set it. k

peace

This has gotta be the most "milk the franchise" idea I've heard for HL2 in a while. What's next, headcrab beanie babies?

I'll take 2.

I wonder how the controls will be like!? :S

You know, it could very well be just the hovercraft sequence.

The reviewers were saying the very sequence could be made into a very good stand-a-lone game on it's own.

Driving and shooting. Probably a second vehicle for co-op. :)

That's an interesting point. They don't need to port the whole game, only about an hour of gameplay (if that).

Controls would just be weird... probably a lot like playing a Halo on the Xbox (which I didn't enjoy). ...doesn't mean I didn't like the game. ;)

So will HL2 come completely with very loud repeating short loops of music, big flashes on the screen. full size GO! text, and player 1 player 2 options.

Oh and combo moves for Gordon, and powerups, and lines after lines of bad guys

the most reasonable contol layout would be that of the game called WAR by midway.(it was there last game) where you have one joystick like in a airplain(head/mouse) and then a series of buttons like a keyboard for your movment forward back straff and jump! keep in mind this is the most comfortable for a pc gamer as it seems natural if you play fps expert style!

The arcade version of Half-Life 2 will be based on the Windows version, which arrives to Japan on 11/17. In addition to a single player Story Mode, the game will include two Online multiplayer modes playable between players located at any arcade throughout Japan. Those itching for Online Half-Life 2 in the arcade will be able to try out competitive play in the game's Battle Mode and cooperative play in the game's Mission Mode.

So Japanese arcaders get to have Half-Life: 2 multiplayer, but the masses don't? :rolling: :rolling:
