Half-Life 2 crashes at start up

Okey heres my problem. I bought myself a spanky new copy of Half-Life 2 to go with my spanking new pc

NVIDIA GeForce 6200SE TurboCache(TM) 256MB
Realtek AC97
XP Home
AMD Athlon64 3700+ ~2.2GHz
1GB Ram
DirectX 9.0c

I installed, Downloaded the game off steam and everything 100%, tried starting the game and BOOM it gets as far as the first loading screen with the blurred background (before you get to the main menu) and then goes black and my PC crashes and reboots its self. The thing is i bought SIN: Emergence today and that works fine. Tried hl2 again and boom.. dies.. can anyone help me? PLEASE help me. i miss playing around on garrys mod!! ..oh the joy

Validate HL2 files?

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM! IT SUCKS ASS CUASE I BEAT HL1 AND NOW I WANT TO PLAY HL2............sry im a lil pissed cause garry's mod works like 1% out of the times i try it. and the demo worked when i first got my pc now full wont work can you plz help us!?
