iv'e noticed that some other people are having the same problem as me, and i wanted to know if there was a solution yet to this problem...i got Half Life 2 when i got a new computer and I beat it twice with no lagging issues or any other issues, but recently (like 4 months ago) it started crashing and making a weird noise, but cs:s i can play with no problem

This thread belongs in Help and Support.

Anyway, did you change anything in your rig recently?

no, but i moved my sound card to a different slot and now it still crashes, but at the next load point, and no more looping sounds, just a silent freeze

What kind of sound card do you have? Is it a Creative card? They tend to give problems (possible IRQ conflicts).

The crashing is Valve's fault.

Does the same thing to me, and a bunch of others.

Give us your PC spec, driver, hardware versions, including DX version. We can’t help you if you don't give us little more info.

Good Luck.

Quit with false accusations. We all use Valve and crashing is always at users end by not fallowing required Specifications and or not keeping system and it's components up to date. The list goes on. Valve does do good job debugging HL.

HL2 never (And I'm saying never) crashed on me. I wonder why? Maybe I use the better more personalized version of Steam I guess.

You should download the new crash-proof Steam, that version never crashs.

Good Luck.

WHAT NEW CRASH PROOF STEAM?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

The requirements are: CPU: 1.2 ghz (2.4ghz recommended), 256 mb RAM (512mb recommended), Direct X 7 level vidio card (9 recommended) Dose your PC meat this?

Can someone explain then how CSS and Loast Coast works but not HL2.

My computer is stable 100% on all games except HL2. And yes i do have an Audigy4 soundcard but the drivers are the latest and no IRC conflict is present since only the audiocard is plugged in so no strange stuff there.

Also i can benchmark my computer with both 3dmark and prime95 for hours with no trouble.
