Hello,
Recently i purchased a sony vaio laptop with Windows vista. I also installed Half life 2 onto it and played it a few times, and suddenly i get an error message on startup, saying Platform error: Module failed to initialize. After this the game seems to be closed and cannot be played but still appears on task manager. Same goes for Deathmatch. Does anybody know the solution to this problem?

I was having the same problem this afternoon, and although I wasn't able to diagnose the exact problem I've somehow fixed my problem and I am now playing counterstrike:source again.

If your case is like mine, and the friend module is preventing you from playing then hopefully this works for you. I'll let you know exactly what I did so you can try to recreate the fix.

1) I disabled the community/friend module by accessing the following STEAM menu:
File >> Settings >> In-game >> Enable Steam Community In-Game

2) I launched CS:S (successfully)
3) Quit game
4) Quit STEAM
5) Reloaded STEAM
6) Enabled Steam Community In-Game

I wouldn't be able to tell you why this worked. Good luck.

You better have Steam, you know, the annoying browser that allows you to play your games.

If the answer to the above question is, Yes, I do;
Then Stay in this forum and hope for a fix, like the one above.

If the answer is, 'What's steam?'
Than GTFO pirate.
