Half Life 2 freezes/crashes every damn minute

Im aware that theres a few more threads of this topic floating around here (O RLY?) but ill just explain what problem is occurring in my case.
Mind you that this problem also applies to other source games (Dark Messiah)

When i start up HL2, everythings fine, game loads and i can play ( some minor freezes from time to time but I can live with that). The main problem is that after a while and in certain areas in the game, the screen freezes and the audio keeps repeating itself forever. Its not like it takes a minute... Also, when it does, the only option to get out of it is to turn of my laptop (which isnt really a good thing to do :/ ) And like i said before, this problem also applies to DM. The performance of the game itself is great however and everything is running like a charm until the freeze/crash ofc...

Hopefully someone can help me out with this. Directx9c installed and the driver is not the latest but one version before that (or whatever you call it)

Specs are (Laptop)

1.74 Ghz Centrino
1 GB ram
128 MB x700 Ati Radeon Mobility
100 GB HDD

I also am getting that every 15 minutes in game play. Except my specs are slightly different.

Same here. Haven't played for ages, started up game on a whim, and Steam forced an (apparantly) game crashing update on me.

Bummer.

When i first installed HL2 it crashed in every autosave. Then i received advice from steam to update my video drivers. (I have nvidia geforce fx5600)i had to reboot my comp after every crash. I went and download BETA drivers from nvidea now everything is smooth, no crashes, no lags. Life is perfect

Alright, so I found a way to fix it (works with me at least). What i did is play it in windowed mode, never crashed again for me whereas it constantly did in full screen. Still countless amounts of stuttering though but not too serious.
