Half-Life 2 freezing

Hello there! I bough the Orange Box yesterday, installed Half-Life 2, yay, everything works just fine...and then bam, it freezes completley, no alt-F4, can't call up the task manager, nothing except button-restarting doesn't work.

Here are my system specs:
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.8 GHz
Ram: 2558 MB
System type: 32 bit Windows Vista
Grahpics card: well...yeah, Nvidia GeForce 6200, but the game runs smoothly enough on medium settings.

That's an odd amount of RAM.
Anyway, go into Steam, right click Half Life 2, properties, local game files, 'verify integrity of game cache'.
This'll check to see if your HL2 is broken and then fix it. After doing that, try it again.
