My hl2 keeps getting an error on startup, just after preparing to launch. No idea what to do, tryed everything, but all my other source games work fine! It goes like this

Runtime Error!

Program: h:\pr...

R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.

I'm running on windows XP Pr, my computer is brand new, and i dont know what is happening. Any help would be appreciated, cause i wanna go :sniper: some combines :cheese:.

is a clue

I already tried that, they were useless

i have tried reinstalling c++ redistributable 2005 , 2006 and 2008 with no luck

reinstalled steam and half life 2 no luck

reformated and reinstalled everything including steam drivers XP and games still no luck

all other source games work ( bought orange box ) portal is fine and hl2 deathmatch and team fortress garrys mod

have been searching google for days and i can find thousands of people with the same problem but nobody seems to have an answer

i would really appreciate any fresh advice

System spec Athlon 64 3200+ 1.0 gb ram 250 gb sata hdd nvidia geforce 6600 PCI-e

thanx for any help

U could try checking the cache... i see people talking about that around here. Think u right click the game, and goto properties.

thanx man will try that now

EDIT : tried checking game files through steam and didnt give any errors

i have also just tried installing XP service pack 3 and still the same error

tried the XP hotfix suggested by steam support ( thought it might be different with SP3 ) but it tells me my version of windows
is already up to date and there is no need for it

at a total loss for what to try next

all i really want to do is run smod so if anyone knows a way of getting that running im not to worried about playing the game itself

once again any help greatly appreciated

Go to Windows/system32 and delete file named engine.dll.

Thank you so much, i can finally play, you are godlike compared to steam support!

IS that seriously a solution, Acid? Deleting anything in sys32 seems fishy...

And his name poses a question.
If it's Half Life 2, wouldn't it be a Full Life 1?
half life + half life either = full life, or an even MORE decayed atom.

Yes, it is a solution for this specific error.
