VALVe's Half-Life 2 characters are sublime, there's no doubting that- but for any of you who feel they don't quite stretch your computer's capabilities, you'll love this new skinpack, developed by Fakefactory.

The Skinpack upadates the characters Alyx, Eli, Kleiner, Mossman, Odessa and some Human Females.[br]

why do they all look like they should be on the cover of Cosmopolitan? Everyone seems to be wearing five nights worth of stage makeup. The extra detail is nice, yes, but these new versions aren't faithful enough to the faces on which they were based and even the atmosphere of the game. Citizens under combine rule should not look like models backstage at London Fashion Week.

Edit: Especially Alyx. Perhaps an androcentric forum like this doesn't notice, but the whole appeal of the Alyx character is that unlike every single other female sidekick in computer game history, she's doesn't look like some cheap tart!
 
I'll stick with the default skins... or just take the male skins and scrap everything else.
 
They might be very detailed and all, but they dont even look that great in my opinion. The characters look uglier. But I like the effort.

Alyx looks way better, all the others look like crap.
 
I installed them and played some chapters in game (HL2) - they do look better and I swear that my FPS went up - probably just my mind playing tricks on me.
 
I'd agree with the majority. The quality is good :thumbs:, but I really don't have idea where could Alyx get a lipstick... :rolleyes:
 
I would use them if all the chick weren't wearing all this makeup, and didn't all have HUGE ungodly large lips. All of them look like they just got a fresh batch of collagen, or were just popped in the mouth.
"we got to go take down that strider"
"one sec, just a little more mascara"

Also, Mosman looks like shes trying to score more heroin.
 
I'd grade it a C but an A* for effort.

Needs more grit and oppressed-rebels-fighting-ness. And less make-up.
 
interesting idea - especially considering the originals were already pretty damn hi-res.. shame it came out.. a bit too synthetic, symmetrical and shiny.. almost like mannequins - a great effort but i would add some wear and tear/blemishes. more organic.

to me, the fact that people can spend what is obviously a great deal of time and effort to make something which (imho) doesn't improve on the original (except in mathematical resolution) underlines what a superb job Valve did with the subtleties of the original artwork/face detailing.

10/10 Effort
7/10 Execution
 
I like Eli, and I adore the new Mossman skin. The look of distraught really suits her well and adds some depth just by the look of it. Makes things more real.

The only thing I don't like about Alyx is the lips. Too glossy for me, and rather distracting actually. The make-up on the female resistance members is also too strong.

Cubbage doesn't appear to have changed that much, except for a few facial scars.

KupoArtist is right, those faces have been photoshopped in order to put them on a cover of Cosmopolitan.

Web designers, if you don't underline links, at least make the links a distinct colour. *sigh*
 
nice idea, but they are IMO a bit "tarty" like that. I think it could have been done better.. a little to much makeup for the theme of the game I'm thinking.

Mossman looks like she's been smacked up, Alyx's lips look plastic and Eli and Klieners faces look .... far to grainy (imo :x)
 
They're all very "oily" looking. I kind of like Kliener though. He looks even more like the stereotypical "absent-minded scientist." You expect to see him on a park bench somewhere, feeding the pigeons...
 
The Male ones look good IMO... though i'm not entirely sure I can actually discern any difference between them and the originals anyway...

Sorry, but I do think it's about as subtle as a sledgehammer. Got to be fair to the guys who made it though. As Men, how're they supposed to know that makeup isn't supposed to be applied with a trowel :p (plus, they can't be losing any points for trying).

The only good ones are the male models, but all the females look like beat up street whores, or they haven't slept in 48 hours.
