Bought Half-Life 2 when it came out, then made a move about 8 months ago, and because of poor internet connection played offline sense then. Started to play last month but was locked out. Contacted Steam, but they say because I've misplaced the CD Key and no longer have my old Email address when I registered it, I'm out of luck.

Bought Half-Life 2 Episode One, tried to install. When it was signing in to Steam it dropped the internet connection. Install failed. I'm locked out, because I'm a good customer.
Beware Steam has no mercy.

i dont understand how it would lock you out due to an install failure... I've never heard of this before... if you have the CD key on the paper that came in the box then tell valve and they should be able to retrieve your account, your user name and password and if not they can reset the the CD key(s)...

Wasn't the CD-key glued to the inside of the CD case?

You are not locked out. Either it registered your key to your account, in which case you just need to log into it, or it didn't, in which case the key can be registered with another account.

"Beware Steam has no mercy" - You should probobly replaces this with "Beware, I am an idiot"

Your favourite type of person is the mocker of the naive isn't it Steve!?

The thread starter must realise a CD-KEY is not required after it has been input once before. All you need is the email and password to log into steam. The email should be one you've used in the past or now...surely you can remember that? Request your password to be reset, and check your emails to get your account back.

With regard to purchasing HL2: Episode 1, being locked out is impossible. Log back in and check your games. If Episode 1 is not there, then check your credit/debit card purchases, if Steam is on there and you don't have the game, send a ticket to steam. If you don't actually own either of these games and this was a plea for a freebie, no such thing exists. I'd hope you wouldn't waste our time like that.

Also - moved to Valve games help.

If I were to find the CD Key. Then I would be able to tell my mistakes in securing it. What follows is my last Emial to Steam.

[ Thank You for your help. I installed new modem and it signed in to Steam. I have changed my Email address. The problem was Cingular Unlimited internet connection, is limited to all the web except for Steam. When I'm connected with Cingular, and try to sign in, Cingular drops the connection. Agian, Thank You for being so understanding. ]

There is a button that says Print my receipt. Im guessing you should have pressed it.

Beware Steam has no mercy.

After reviewing your issue i have come up with some questions of my own.
1) You State,
Bought Half-Life 2 Episode One, tried to install. When it was signing in to Steam it dropped the internet connection. Install Failed. Im locked out,
Now, what do you mean when you say "Locked Out"?

2) Install Failed, correct me if im wrong but you will be installing Half-Life 2 after you have already signed into Steam. And if not then you wouldnt have the chance to enter the CD key, so you should still be in the clear.
