We are desperatly seeking talented modellers, skinners and 2d artists for now. They will be required to create detailed weapons, characters and map scenery and props. add [email protected] to your msn list, showing me some of your lastest work will make my decision easier, thanks.

this mod simply creates mortal kombat like never before. third person view - Outworld vs Earthrealm. every character up to UMK3 will be included in the game (roughly about 30-32 characters). traps, stage weapons, signature special moves and fatalities will be implemented. stories will be created which will help u choose your destiny and there is talk of unlockbale content - if all goes well.

currently we only have forums which r located at http://www.mkdoerforum****/ hope u find interest in this mod and bring great help if u decide to join.

Er, copyright?

not only did you spell desperately wrong, you violated copyright laws
you do not desperately need staff, nobody does
people will desperately need staff when their coder can't do work because of lack of materials
also talked in leetspeak

sigh...

Don't you Mortal Kombat, make up your own idea.

It's not that hard you know...

1. we have gotten permission from midway to do such a game, dont throw your copyright bullsh!t at me
2. we decided to do a mortal kombat mod to give the fans something they have never seen before in a mortal kombat game.
3. This is not an english class - you obviously knew what word i meant so there was no need to correct me.
4. by "desperately" needing talented modellers i mean..we have none. how do you expect us to create a mod with no one to work on it.

you treat me like sh!t, you get the same treatment, buddy. oh yer join the mod! :)

Dude, that's great that you've got permission before proposing an idea, it's nice to see some teams using their heads. Just a quick question... What do you mean "something they have never seen before in a mortal kombat game" what could there possibly be that could fit into the Mortal Kombat universe? More fatalities?

Since just about every new mod idea has some kind of copyright infringement involved, people here are just used to telling them that.

If you can prove that you have permission for such a mod, then I will beleive you. But I don't see how you could... or why Midway would just give up one of its biggest games for free...

Yeah... On second thought, I doubt midway would give you permission to do anything regarding Mortal Kombat with Deception on the way.. Let's see proof :)

heres my idea from quite a while ago:

its called "shock media" and you are basically a ninja photojournalist, you look like james bond, you have a nice suit on and stuff but when you go on missions you wear all black and look like a ninja spy.

anyway the idea here is that you start catastrophes (wtc maybe? maybe that is too controversial but its an example) and you use a camera to get the best shots to sell to the media (since you already know its going to happen) and anyway you fight against a group of people who are against you for starting these horrible things.

you eventually join them and use your knowledge to defeat the people who you were working for (who you didnt know much about).

when you snap a photo it will save a screenshot on your computer and you can go through them in-game and they can be automatically added to newspapers or whatever in-game (superimposed on something like maybe a billboard) and the better the picture, the better the price you can charge for it (maybe the models will have points attached to them or something.

The more you get in one shot the better, im not sure how the points will be determined) and then online there will be a male and female model and you can take snaps of things just like this (each map will take up the entire amount of space possible, basically each map is a section of a city) other things would include blowing up schoolbuses and destroying churches, you know, horrible shit you see on the news.

Then, online, people can take photos too which would maybe be saved on the server temporarily and points will be determined automatically for how much of the bus is in the shot and how well you can see the flames or something, this is the only part your mod team will have to really figure out.

Then you can kill other photojournalists and steal their floppy disc (all ninjas use digital pictures) and then get it developed at one of the computer terminals in the random apartment buildings you can break into, then points are awarded for the pics and the one with the most points wins!

The best part is people can go on the (virtual) computers and look at other peoples pictures and maybe the server can set a point value at which to keep the pictures and not delete them automatically so that they can look through the best shots and put them on their website or something.

It will also include a team of all bots which will be security guards and stuff like that, i think this will make for an interesting online as well as one player game and whoever posts first that they want to work on this takes the project on, you must find modelers and all that im just the idea-guy, also please mention larry k in the credits or something. thanks. best part is absolutely no copyright problems because i made it up by myself

btw, game developers can only use their copyright protection on games if our mod was going retail with this, or if we were making money (because we are making a profit out of their industry). we are not in it for the money - so no copyright laws can be laid down. i did ask for permission though, and i am able to create the mod, only if i stay true to the MK theme. and no wraith - i am not interested in making that mod...sounds a bit like pokemon snap to me.

oh and to answer your question SixThree, our mod will bring MK to third person view, (this was decided over first person because of the easier melee system), and as special moves go, you can aim with them instead of them always going in that same horizontal direction. there are also the little things aswell, like sub zero's ability to create a bridge of ice to gain access to higher places, scorpion can set ablaze to the scenary all in a massive 3d environment. (i have to be vague so i dont reveal too much info, sorry)

Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.

Read - http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=17284

It has nothing to do with making a profit.

i am simply going by what my mod leader informed me, he said he submitted a letter to Midway Games, and they gave the thumbs up. and in that thread 'pi mu rho', at the end it says 'You're not allowed to profit from such modifications financially, but provided you follow the simple rules laid out under copyright law, you've got a pretty long leash to work with.', well our mod isnt gonna profit from it....(sorry to sound like a dick all the time but im just defending a mod i have been working hard for)

Wow, you really quoted that out of context.

game companies these days allow and encourage people to modify the game. You're not allowed to profit from such modifications financially, but provided you follow the simple rules laid out under copyright law, you've got a pretty long leash to work with.

Meaning that you can make mods as much as you like, as long as you don't infringe someone else's copyright

Look at it another way - what gives you (or anyone else) the automatic right to use characters that someone else created for your own purposes? It's one thing doing it purely for yourself, in your own home, but when whatever you make is going to be distributed worldwide via the internet, it's a different proposition.

If you've got permission, you haven't got a problem. I have a hard time believing that you have, though.

i will ask my mod leader if he ACTUALLY got permission, if the son of a b!tch is lying im gone.

Do you email every company that someone infringes upon with their new mod ideas? :|

Anyway, hope all goes well Flawless Victory, but I sincerly doubt that your mod leader ever got permission. :( Midway, like most huge game companies, won't be handing out its intellectual property for free. And they can take legal action even if you are making no profit. They will see free distribution of their game title as taking money away from them, since potential customers for a Mortal Kombat game might just download your free mod instead. They can shut you down quite easily.

I don't know about jailtime, though...

I thought the whole copyright thing included protecting 'potential earnings'... like Midway could have made an extra $25k if you didn't show up...

yeah dassbaba thats kinda sad who cares if "his" mod is infringing on copyright laws they'll find out the hard way why waste your time emailing them you got way too much time on your hands.Let them work on it and if midway finds out about it its there ass on the line. And cmon people this isent school we can sp3ll how3v3r w3 wan7.
