I heard that you could somehow go into the Half-Life 2 game folder and such and take the music off so you could listen to it. I've yet to figure this out as I'm computer-stupid. x.x

Could someone tell me how to get the music off of the game, please? And could you dumb it down to where an idiot could understand?

If this isn't accepted, sorry. 'Was just wondering.

You need a program called GCFScape http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=26

Install that, and look for a file in your steam/steamapps/ folder called source sounds.gcf. If you can't find the file, filesearch for it, the filename's exactly correct. Use the GCFScape program to open that.

This will give you access to all the sounds in HL2, including the music.

It would be cool if you did a search next time, this has been posted quite a bit :)

GCFscape won't work if Steam is running either
For some gcfs only, I can still access some even while steam is running. You need to disable steam before you open source sounds.gcf though.

I'm terribly sorry. I'd looked all over google and only found Half-Life 2... um... don't wanna go there...

And Yahoo! didn't help at all. Just kept giving me links of people discussing the game on forums (much like this). :/ So I came here for help. Thanks for answering my question, though. I'd only been able to get not even half of the songs from WinMX.. *Sweatdrop*

if you only want to extract the music you should just use hl2studio, as it doesn't require microsoft's .crap framework to run.

We meant using the search feature on these forums...

Oh..

Well, sorry about that. I'd just woken up when I posted that anyway (the one about googling the music help).. e.e Sorry for not looking.

You can lock this now if you want.

Dude, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. Haven't seen you around, so welcome to the forums anyhow :) Hope you sorted the music out.
