Half-Life 2: Myths and Realities, topic suggestion

I've decided, if only for my own amusement, to write up an article detailing myths and realities about HL2. There seem to be a lot of misconceptions about the game and various events over the last year, and I'd like to collect them all into an article that I'll hopefully vet with Valve before finishining.

Current topics I'm thinking about writing on:

Myths
-Valve promised fully destructible environments
-Valve claimed that the leak caused the delay, but recently admitted that this wasn't true
-Source can't light things dynamically
-HL2 will be pay-for-play
-HL2 won't come with Multiplayer

I'd appreciate any other suggestions: any topics you can think of that you believe there to be widespread misconceptions about.

Adding to that "HL2 won't come with MP" there was also big hassle about which things you buy. Ie, will the HL1 ports be shipped with HL2?

Well, that is, of course, exactly what I'll be writing about. :)
 
Myths:
VALVe claimed HL2 to be 100% unscripted
There have been multiple delays
 
Myth: Source is just like "real-life" and "anything is possible".
 
Myth: Half-Life 2 will be released on Steam before the shops
Myth: HalfLife2.Net is the official Half-Life 2 website
Myth: Half-Life 2 will feature biozeminades :LOL: :p
Myth: The stolen build is the same build that was showing at E3 2003
 
Good thing someone is trying to clear some things up. :)

Well, it wasn't directly the cause of the delay, but they said it contributed to it, in the fact that nobody really felt like working after it was first leaked. It wasn't that they had to rewrite a bunch of code or anything.
 
Myth: Half-Life 2's multiplayer will be TF2.
 
There will be other things in the game that make themselves look good, don't worry.

Myth: There is currently a Half-Life movie in production
 
Myth-

Everyone on the net are experts on alien anatomy and know Striders could never walk on 3 legs.

The Gmans teeth are too white.

There is a such thing as AI that doesn't run on scripts.
 
Myth: Physgun and Manipulator both in game?
Myth (or something): Blowing up lots of wood lags the game (remember those shaky cam vids?)

The Physgun and the Manipulator ARE both in game.
 
Oh :) somehow I always thought the Physgun was just for the tech stuff. Considering how crappy it was in the demo, and they never released a bink of it. Oh well, the point of this topic was to correct things like this afterall ;) (and then again, haven't read the mail thread very carefully)
 
Please include in your article the difference between specular mapping and HDR lighting. I see these two effects being misunderstood almost constantly.
 
This thread is for clearing up facts not distorting them.

That 'rumor' is just mass confusion of the stupid general public. People seem to not understand that there will be several payment methods for Half-Life 2, one of the many Half-Life 2 options will be a monthly payment, BUT you get every single mod/patch/download for free. Including mods that will cost money normally released by VALVe, as well as mods released by the mod community that would normally cost a small amount of money. So the pay to play rumor is just one of the payment options, not just the only option.

i hate TF :S ... i want random hl2 deathmatch where ppl throw barrels and round slicing disk thingies at eachother.. but thats just me..

anywho .. hl2 mp will not be pay to play... valve said so themselves.. i thought ppl were clear about this.. its pay steam every month some subscription thingie and u dlaod whatever is relaesed over steam for free. once u have hl2 u can play mp.. whatever it is.. for free.

i still dont get what biozomenaidadedsdsd are... that link just confuses me more.

Myth:
Half-Life 2 defeated the vile and hated Gorgon on the field of eternal fires by using a shining sword of polished adamantium to reflect its paralysing gaze.

Also myth:
The HL1 gearbox expansions are not a part of the HL2 universe.
 
Myth: The main character is HL2 is Hordon Freeman
Myth: Alyx is Gordon Freeman and Eli Vance's love child.
Myth: People who have downloaded the leaked version are the greatest, most intelligent and beautiful people in existence, especially when they post information derived from it.

If you're looking for myths, just browse Half Life Radio or that other site they're connected with. We tend to put the myths out of their misery very quickly here.
