Half life 2 not working right

First of all the game keeps freezing so no characters respond anymore or attack for that matter. I also have gotten the message across the sreen "A.I. disabled...Don't know how to enable that. After each save I get a message saying NODES not updated... Don't get that and most of all do I have to use STEAM to play this game? Steam diagnostics say I must upgrade my video card Driver to something that doesn't seem to exist (8.282)HUH??? I think that I got ripped off. I have no problem playing GTA,Blackhawk down or Max Payne with my current driver. Any suggestions from anybody?

If Steam diagnostics say that, then do it.
Also, I really don't think GTA uses Source

Sorry mate, HL2 bought from anywhere other than stores or Steam is generally a bit dodgy. Yes, you'll have to use Steam, it's Valve's anti-piracy thingymagic as well as a way of forcing updates down your throat. No, I don't think you got ripped off, Half-Life 2 is one of the games that actually scales down. All other games you listed are pre-Half-Life 2 anyway (GTA a bit questionable, SA, VC or LC?)

still doesn't look like i will be able to play it. Can't find the recommended driver(8.282)don't have product code so unable to work with steam. So i can't get the patches i might need. And it sucks to get way into the game and have it lock up, only to have to atart again.

He DIDN'T buy it - he even admits he doesn't have a "product code" - CD key, and he does NOT have it running with Steam, but he HAS had it running. BAN!

And anyone that thinks he did buy a second hand game and got ripped off:

1) This thread would be more like "I tried to register my CD key (second hand) and it says already registered! What do I do?"

2) He would be pissed off, not merely puzzled.

Buy the game dickhead.
