[br]This, of course, is a play on the 1984 Macintosh commercial, which introduced the world to the Macintosh computer. We have previously seen an image taken from in the ad-campaign back when Steam for Mac was revealed.[br]The video announces that Half-Life 2 will be available to play on all Macs on the 26th, and I'm sure even more games are in the pipeline.

haha, great ad.

didn't even realize that the 26th was tomorrow either! hurrah! :D

Why couldn't they release it at launch..? That seems like a large oversight, unless they just wanted to spread out features to maximize revenue.

they made the launch kick-off by making portal free, or a large title that they were prepared to release for free which is portal and not half-life 2, so the release was all about that. probably a bit of a what you said also, likely a bit of fine tuning to do as well... but i'd suspect it was mostly all about portal.

it's only been two weeks, anyway. i was expecting it to be quite a while until it was released, but i've had a good two weeks with machinarium and killing floor.

I wonder if this is the HL2 version of the PC or if it has the upgraded graphics (high res textures and effects) from the Xbox360 Orange Box version.

I just saw it on steampowered, and noticed halflife2.net tag. :D

Amazing. I wonder if those plastic shards (DVDs ?) are reference to digital nature of Steam. :D

That was an awesome trailer!

I must have missed the Gman, I'll probably watch it again anyways.. :)

Great ad, wish it was slightly longer though.

that's what I was saying.

They were probably aiming to release at launch but had to delay it for some reason. TF2's still not available on Mac even though it was supposed to be.
I thought this was their original plan. Release a game once ever often to highlight the Mac version of Steam.

It seems that Alyx now wields the crowbar.

Oh, but then she decided to throw it at Breen's face.

Oh. My. God.

That was so ****ing cool.

Since this is a new release, I think Valve is going for the upgraded version.

this offends me...I want my ****ing ep3.
stop wasting time on apple shit.

Since this is a new release, I think Valve is going for the upgraded version.
And then the obvious follow-up question is whether the PC will receive this as well on the release today.

This is great!
I know its' a long shot, but maybe this could hint towards a possible release of episode 3 anytime soon - caus' now Valve will get even more people to play half-life 2 which equals even more people who are excited about a new episode! So, err, how long do you think it will take the newborn crowbar-wielding players to finish the game(s)? :afro:

(btw. It's is a reference to an original Macintosh commercial: youtube.com/watch?v=OYecfV3ubP8)

TBH what I'm hoping for it them not doing anything to update HL2 until EP3 is shipped, and then release a game on Steam (free to anyone with HL2 + all three episodes) that has all four games running on the EP3 engine. If they simply update HL2 to the newest engine the minimum requirements will go up (no dx7 or 8 support) which I think is a bad thing.

Admittedly that could potentially be a problem, but we're talking about what was considered the low end of computer hardware six years ago. Statistically they would be miles in the clear, and as a failsafe the availability of the update could be dependent on steam's own evaluation of the hardware.

If the HL2 for Mac is the updated version I hope it comes for PC too. I don't want to wait that long (for ep3) to get it updated.

I would have high expectations that it will . . .

If you think about it, since Portal was released on MAC any update that has been released for it has simultaneously been for both the PC and MAC versions - since the versions are essential the same. Surely it will be the same in reverse?

;)

I was thinking along the lines of the graphical improvements? I want EP2 graphics for HL2. I'm sick of having to compare Alyx's drastically different models between HL2 itself and the episodes. the Vortigaunts too.

Yes, it is the long-awaited graphical improvement update. My HL2 and Ep1 are receiving the update right now and it seems to be a very hefty one.

/sigh

Time to replay HL2 for the too-manyth time.
