Half Life 2 Performence Worries!

Ok. So i'm running a P4 3gighz 1gig ddr400 (nonamecrap) and a Sapphire X800XT.
I am running CS : Source @ 1024x768 all options set to high & 6xaa 16x af . Everything maxed out to the highest possible , res would be higher but my monitor sucks.

Anyway , i've noticed some pretty crappy performence in 2 levels. Aztec , runs @ about 30fps in the big open area near the water.
Chateu is well just sad , one certain spot . when your in the water looking towards bomb site B where the CT windows are.
In that location my fps dropped to 18fps!! and it runs between 18-30fps in that area depending on how much action is going on.

Now if im correct in assuming that CS : Source is only a taste of how good HL2 will look i am very worried . As i read in a post with comparisons of Half life 1 source and half life saying that the Source version doesnt take full advantage of the engine but it is a huge jump from original Half life....

Anyone else feeling the same?
Or am i just getting really bad performence .
I know my 3dmark03 score was about 1k off what it should be but that will be fixed with new ram witch im getting in the next couple of days.

ahh... im ranting , i just hope i wont have to upgrade again intime for HL2 lol!

Bwahahahahaha. Have to upgrade a 3 GHz, 1 GB Ram and a X800XT? hahahahah.

Install your motherboard drivers and install the latest catalysts. You'll be fine.

sorry dude, but you can't always hope to run the newest games at the max settings max aa max af and expect to get 60+ fps.

no offense but 1024x768 at 6x and 16AF is an unwise setting. no need to go above 8x AF. and 6x AA is overkill.

try 1280x1024 at 2x AA and 8AF. hike up the AA to 4 if it looks too jagged. with great hardware comes great responsibility. you need to learn what settings look the best but get the best framerate.

and like blah said make sure you have latest drivers. i suggest installing the latest beta driver from ATI. try guru3d.com

I'm having the same problem. I've updated every freaking driver I can think of, and then rolled back to older versions just to be safe. I have a P4 3GHz CPU, an ATI 9700 Pro, and 1024MB of RAM. The beta was fine of course. Ran without flaw. However the actual game is stuck in 27 FPS for no reason whatsoever. No matter what settings I change it's stuck there.

so it never goes above 27 fps? is this true when you start your own server as well?

Do you have AA or AF enabled? What resolution? What drivers are you using as well? Do you have V-Sync enabled?

Those are the thigns that come to the top of my head. THe V-sync one sounds like the most obvious solution to me.

you know whats weird, no matter what i can't get vsync enabled in CS:S. even if i set it to always on in ATI CP AND inside CS:S, i can tell its still off in game. its the only game where ive not been able to force vsync.

That one spot in Chateu is pretty ****in' horrible... I wonder what's causing that...

AA and AF are off, using version 4.9 catalyst drivers, 1024x768 resolution, and no V-Sync. It hardly ever budges above 27FPS.

But... but.... very expensive video card recently purchased ;(

lol.. Umm yeah. i don't really trust beta drivers , ive heard some bad things about the latest . I'll give em ago anyway.

My Stress Test result on these settings was 94fps . Someone on here stated that they scored 136fps in a thread afew days ago . I'm sure theres more juice i can get out of my pc!

Hmmm...

Do you have problems in other games? Do you have the same problem with the Valve Stress Test?

Also, can you play with the resolution in CS:S and see how the frame rates change?

I'll be happy if I get 20 FPS on my PC with CS source or Half-life 2.

helllllloooo?

does it also do this when you start your own server?

I have a good comp and all that but I really don't want to play HL2 on a high resolution. I am just gonna play it on 800 x 600 like I still play HL now. That also means I shouldnt loose framerate in some places.

Ok ok!!!
Just updated to the latest drivers. Omega 4.10 beta's and scored 102.8fps in the stress test!!
Same deal as before 1024x768 all settings maxxed out 6xaa 16xaf!

Very happy with these results but as always illl continue to try get as high a score as possible!

could be the intel? i know intel sucks but...my frames never ever drop below 90 with everything all the way up...everything a64 3200 bfg 6800gt oc...139 fps on stress test...

What resolution & is that with 6aa16af?
I'm pretty sure it IS Intel , if Anandtech's D3 benchmarks are anything go by anyhow link
AMD64s simply own other CPU's in gaming and pretty much evertyhing else but 139fps!! And the fact you've got a 6800... lol.

Well, with 4xAA and 8xAF, I get smooth rates(depends on map 30-100+ indoors) on a 9800 pro, Mobile Barton [email protected](FX-53 die), 1GB of DDR400.
