Half-Life 2(Please wait while steam updates game files)

I've installed Half-life 2 (which i bought from steam)fully and verified. But every time i click on it to try to play it goes to the preparing to launch half-life 2 and then it goes to a dialog box that says, "Please wait while steam updates game files." it stays at 0% and then closes. I have reinstalled it countless times but to no avail. Please help.

Meh... Another... First off, Legit or non legit? (You said it is, but we have to be sure) Second, make sure it's installing right. Third, validate game cache. Fourth, is your computer good enough to play hl2?

OP have you clicked on the steam icon and then click on the my games tab to verify that its updating?
