Half-Life 2 problem

Try uninstalling your video drives, and make sure you don't have the driver from your old card still installed. then get on ati's website and download the newest driver. . .that should help.
 
Yeah, update your drivers like Hollywood said. ATI also have a little 'catalyst uninstaller' utility which you can use to uninstall your current drivers and make sure there are no traces of them left. Get the newest version of the catalyst drivers, download the Catalyst Uninstaller and use it/follow the instructions, then reboot (your desktop will look cock-ugly at this point, but don't worry) and then install the newer drivers.
 
I did that all and reinstalled and no difference. It can play Goldsource games perfect now. It must have something to do with Source
 
Maybe verify your Steam game cache files...?
 
I did and fragmented it. It happens with all source games, css, hldm, garrys mod, and hl2. But no other ones
 
Sorry, I forgot you said you'd done that. Out of ideas here. Unless you go for an older version of the catalyst drivers...? Check the driver archive at the ATI site. Your card is a little old and the newest Catalyst's might not be the best ones for it. Omega drivers might also be worth trying, too.
 
So should I use the catalyst cleaner before installing omega?
 
Yeah, to be safe. The Omega drivers come with their own control center type program too.

Hope the Omegas help. They are basically tweaked Catalysts, so if they don't help then maybe you would be better off using an older version number.

As for the quote - I don't know. I took it as a second hand quote from my favourite band and I forgot to whom they attributed it.
 
It looks like you might be taking a trip to teh Best Buy to tell them gfx card sucks and you want ur money back. . .

did u try uninstalling/reinstalling the game itself?
 
None of the Omega things helped.

Reinstalling all my source games? I don't think theres a problem with every game. I mine as well start saving up for another one.
 
how long have u had the card? it sounds like a defect. . u might try returning it. .
 
im having the same problems on my ati x1650 pro 512 mb....my computer has 3 gb of ram.....windows vista....amd athlon 4200+ 64x2 dual processor....i dont know what the problem is
 
I'm just gonna save up, and probably get Nvidia instead. Or buy another ati and use the forms to send this back and get $50.00
