I have just noticed that when you buy silver package you get all the games except blue shift! why is that!

It's not available to play on steam yet. So you cant buy it.

I'm stuck betweem getting retail and silver atm, any help anyone? pro's and cons i know...

Blue Shift isn't included in any package because the Half-Life engine was rewritten to support the features in Blue Shift.

bluwshift was a gearbox product i think

I'm patient, i can wait till HL2 comes out, doesn't bother me. I would essentially like the box and manual, but i also want Dod : S and HL: S. I can only see this working if i buy them as separate mods in the future, which is a bother :(

Retail contains HL2 and CS:S
Silver contains HL2, CS:S, HL:S, DOD:S, and all of valve's back catalogue.

Which is better bang for your buck? Depends on if you like steam or not. I got Silver myself.

Edit: Collector's retail contains all of the silver stuff too methinks, but costs alot more.

I had the impression however you get it, you still need steam online/offline mode to play. In fact im pretty certain?

I believe you are correct sir.

BUT, a lot of use still want our own cds.

Yes i am one of those people, but i also want DOD:S and HL:S without spending loads on CE and getting all that other stuff. I can't order over steam as i dont have visa/ master card (thanks valve :( ) Quite a predicament :imu:

EDIT : thanks homer for your sig, i have a fear of octopus and squid :flame: :flame:

I got the silver pack (as so eloquently stated in my sig). Plus side is you get to play CS:S for a month till HL2 comes out. I'm not a huge fan of CS, but I really do like CS:S.
Plus HL:S and DOD:S are nice bonuses too, for the money.
While getting the CDs would be fine, I'll just burn whatever I need onto other CDs I have laying around, no big deal. Just so long as Valve gives us a .pdf of the manual or something.

Oh yea, plus the fact that you are helping Valve out a bit more. All the proceeds off a Steam purchase goes straight to Valve, and Vivendi doesn't get a penny. Har har.

Well im thinking steam silver.

33 pounds plus all the software gold has.

and its 17 pounds you arent paying to get extra crap like tshirts and badges that display just how little of a life you have to the public.

Yes Hectic Glenn you are correct; a steam validation has to take place regardless of whether you get retail or steam versions of the software. Sorry I forgot to add that in.

I wonder what the breakdown of Bronze, Silver, Gold Steam sales are?

My guess:

Bronze - 25%
Silver - 60%
Gold - 15%

What I would say is get silver, then if you really want the CD's wait a few months for the prices to drop and by a retial copy. After all it can't hurt to have two CD keys/accounts.

It's more like £40 by the time you add tax. Depends how badly you need HL1:S/etc.

I am also torn between retail and silver... although its cool to burn you own backups its not the same :~(

HL:S is the main reason why i want the silver edition though, that and what that other guy said is right... i can always wait a few months and buy another copy for the hard copy part.....

buy the retail box and then upgrade to silver if you feel you want it. The upgrade cost on steam is only $10 us.

do you know that we can upg to silver or do you just guess?

don't bring back old threads. I'm sure he knows..
