Half-Life 2 Warning

Ok, before I start I’d like to ask that I will not be pummelled into a less-than-attractive mass of flesh and bone, thanks :p

I can't stop watching all these videos and pictures that are being released, but I can't help but wonder that every time I watch one, I am getting more used to the game, therefor lessening it's impact before I've even played it.

I want to stop all of this, unlearn everything about it, and simply have my socks blown off when I buy it in a few months time, and have no clue as to what to expect. - but I can't stop watching them! ahhh I'm going to go watch one again...

I try to watch them all just once, so ill be majorly surprised come game time.

I know waht you mean, me is having the same feeling next to the omg this wotn work feeling

wont all this madness just end? the answer is no because we cant get enough of hl2 when its not even out

I don't mind it much, the game has 30+ hours of play, you will still be surprised.

it's like... um... the difference between being on an airplane and flying an airplane.

yeah.

.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But there is no going back now. What I'm hoping is that there is a certain amount of hype after which you begin to like the game just for being what it is.

i just watch them once, i really dont read previews/reviews. I dont want them to tell me what im going todo in the game, which they do!

Bah, I'm not worried. I expect the gameplay to blow me away. The graphics and such aren't what make the game. I'll gorge myself on the movies for now, and trust that when I actually sit down with my copy of HL2, it will be what I can do with the amazing physics and engine that will knock my socks off, not the physics and engine themselves.

Yeah, and to make then worse.. the graphics arent as revolutionary as I thought... on that subject, they look terrible compared to the 600Mb version. :(:(

Hmmm...I wouldn't go as far to say that they look terrible. They do seem to be little less impressive, though, and I think that's because we were watching shaky cams or lower resolution Quicktime movies of the feed. It kind of blurs the gaming engine look and makes it feel more realistic.

Here's my best example. The other day, I watched "Jurassic Park" on a local TV station that was transmitting in analog. I watched this on my 32" analog TV and the special fx looked nothing short of stunning, almost...dare I say..."real", especially for a 10+ year old movie. Then, out of curiousity I popped in my DVD copy of it and watched the same scenes on my computer monitor in hi-definition goodness. Know what I saw?

CGI, robotic puppets, and blue screens.

It still looked great; don't get me wrong. But with the advent of high-res video, we have become spoiled from special fx - it's harder to mask their believability when you can no longer make the fx in high res and scale them down to lower res for viewing.

When I first saw the shaky cams of the Half-Life 2 E3 clips, I felt like I was almost watching a film - it looked "that good". Now that I can see the BINK's in 1024 x 768, I can see aliasing and some bump mapping on models that...well - I shouldn't even be able to tell that they were bump mapping on models! See what I mean, though?

It's almost as if the Half-Life 2 game footage looked better scaled down - almost more believable. But now that we have the original high-res clips, we can tell that it's CGI.

IMHO, it still looks damn good - and the gameplay will more than make up for these gripes. I think it's just a lesson that illustrates that we are still pretty far away from photo realistic gaming.

Cheers,

i am not bothered, i still find some stuff amazing, like the reflection in the beginning in the bugbait movie, when you walk trough that small hallway you'l see the end of the dark hallway reflected on the wall on the left side. truly a amazing effect.

I dreamt I had a demo of the game last night. Man it was great, I can promise you that! I remember that you could push people (probably a replacement of the manipulator) and so I did, so I pushed them down the stairs. MAN IT WAS GREAT!
Oh and one thing that shocked me was that it was Sega that had made the game, instead of Valve!! But it was good and it started out with that Barney smashed a train....very interesting!

i know.....i did that with silent hill 3 aswell and spoilt it completley for myself......i'm goin to try my best not to read or watch anything hl2 related ever again

ditto.

A few things your can try...

1) watching them with your eyes closed
2) watching them standing on your head
3) watching them drunk
4) watching them whilst blinking
5) trying to go cold turkey and go with out watching them for however long you can.

... good luck. I know how u feel I'm in the same pair of shoes.
