The HL2: Wars mod team have been working hard over the past months with huge improvements on their 0.5 Beta release of the mod back in July. If you've not played HL2: Wars before, it's the Half-life 2 universe implemented into a RTS game. This mod has achieved this convincingly already, but are looking to improve the gameplay significantly.
The game is in the process of being fully redesigned to replace the lackluster gameplay. Much has also been done to the game to improve latency issues, navigation, and AI, including a brand new NPC system that runs much more smoothly online and allows full control over how all of the units behave. HL2: Wars also now features a traditional RTS game lobby and team colours.
You can see an example of the lobby and team colours below. Keep up to date with the mod on the Half-life 2: Wars website or check out their moddb page for more media and to vote HL2: Wars your Mod of the Year 2008

Damn, that's a sweet lobby,
And it looks like a kickass mod too!

:>

I've tried this in the past and it has great potential, but I'm waiting for a story mod before I'm fully interested.

Never seen this before.

Downloading now. Go Ennui!

2Fast4U: We'll have a campaign eventually, it's in the conceptual phase but won't see the light of day for a long while yet because we have a lot to do beforehand (like a working MP release). Stay tuned.

I see what you did there! :D Now quit browsing our news and get back to work on OL.

PS: Cheers Glenn, thanks for posting the news :)

Nice update.

Was the Lobby built using Steamworks or is it somehow otherwise implemented?

Nope, it's actually just a glorified map (called 'room') with VGUI that launches other maps with certain options from it. If we ever get our hands on Steamworks we could make a more seamless one like L4D.

Ah very clever, I did wonder how you managed that. When I get my hands on this, I'm going to see if I can noclip around the lobby.

About time for me to try this! A strategy in half life... Have to salute you for the idea.
