Half life 2's been great for 2 weeks , so whats wrong now :(..?

basically, ill play the game for uncertain period's and then it will just crash,,

and not just crash but cease to function and lock me out with either a frozen image of the game, or a blank screen, I cant go to the desktop or alt, ctrl , del, the only thing i can do is hit the reset button..

it just started doing it today.. anyone with any faint idea's..?

this only happens when im using HL2DM, HL2,. i used them logged onto steam, 3 times it happened.

how long is certain periods long time. could be overheating problem got good cooling?

just because it happens with hl2 doesn't mean that game is the cause. could be hardware related

I get the same problem. HL2 hardlocks my machine. Never had this with any other games (Far Cry, Doom3 etc..).

Count me in, only sometimes I also get the "memory cannot be read" message instead.

I had a good solid week or so with the game with no problems...then this!

Check in your windows Device Manager. I was having a simular problem and my IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers , parallel ATA controler properties had to be set to let bios select transfer mode.
I just happened to hit the eject button on my CD ROM the last time my screen froze and it unfroze my computer as soon as the disk came out. So I checked the IDE controller.

Mine's doing exactly the same, the game's played fine for the last couple of weeks, but now it's unplayable, I'm at the Anticitizen 1 level and the game crashes beack to desktop after 1-2 minutes.

I've re-installed the drivers for both graphics and sound card, but it's made no difference, it's seriously pissing me off.
