Whem HL3 comes out will the forum just change name or will a new one be set up? it would suck if everyone's posts and stuff came to nil once HL3 comes out.

To be honest if Valve don't improve Steam etc a lot then I'm simply not willing to waste my time on another fan site. We'll have to wait and see.

Eh? What does HL3.net have to do with Steam's improvement? I think we should just make an extension to this site. No harm done.

halflife3.net is already registered by Vivendi Universal :p

Yes alot of times Developers will register gamename2.com
Like blizzard has had,
www.starcraft2.com
licensed for many many years.

To play any Valve game now you have to go through Steam.

What is wrong with steam? It's stable and reliable now, offline mode works fine too... so even when steam is down I can play all the games offline.

I really can't see anywhere that Steam needs improving.

I've got to agree with lePobz, Steam pretty much works like a charm almost all of the time. It has a few kinks, but it's hardly anything major. What does steam have to do with anything anyways?

Don't you guys remember the circus before the game was released?

Yes, but now it's nice and everyone is happy. Except for Munro...What is it that you don't like with Steam?

The name :p Seriously Steam is pretty shitty name heh, but I've had little trouble with it. The only real problem is friends, they may as well take that of the menu :p I've never got that working.

WRONG. We're just so accustomed to the Friends network not working that we ignore it. This is kind of funny, though, because I was actually thinking about this earlier today. I think Halflife2.net should stay as it is, and just keep the name for old-times sake, but move on to a Half-Life 3 website as well.

We still got a little while before we need to worry about this anyway. As long as this site exists in one form or the other, has forums for me to spam and people to vote for my President of the Universe position, I'll be fine.

I'm guessing you mean the really, really early versions of Steam? Yes, they were bad, but then again, they were beta. Steam works just fine now, so I still don't see where you're coming from.

I say we just change the graphics to say "HL3.net" or whatever, then redirect to here from a new URL.

Oh god, but where they BAD! Shudder, I say!

However, Steam has redeemed itself, at least for me.

You could either make a subsection or change the graphic, as Bliink suggested.

Honestly, I think I woudn't mind if VAVLe's games didn't have Steam. Friends just sucks.

I think Bliink's idea is actually the best.

If I were Valve I'd get in touch with the guys at xfire to fix the little friends problem...

Yeah, the friends thing kind of saddens me, I make so many friends ingame and then never see them again :(

I got pro-active and emailed a person at Valve to see if we would ever see Friends working.

Power to the people!!!!!!!!111

hahahaha. i do wonder why they've not focused more on fixing it, it's been a major problem for a long time.

1 word: Xfire

congrats on 2000 posts Ennui!

If we have to creat a new site......I bet The Dark Elf would be pissed!

i understand that not everyone is thrilled about that but lets face it, Valve have introduced a system which other game developers may imbrace...as it increases profits and reduces the middle man costs.

sorry if it makes anyone including Munro a little irratated but some game developer is going to come along and add a personal touch to what Steam is right now and offer a decent product.. Steam all over again ;)

I think withing the next 5 years almost all games will be sold online to download maybe even completely eliminating actual boxed copies. Places like File Planet, IGN and GameSpot are have sections where you can buy and download almost all popular games. I would hate to see this happend because then you would be dependant to have the internet to play your games, movies and music. Itunes is very very popular and with no internet and when it comes time to reformate Windows... And there are talks about doing this with Movies. Having a pay to watch movies instead of releasing them onto DVD (Soon To be HD Format).
