Half-Life 3: Voice Recognition Software?

I read in a thread somewhere here that Valve 'officially announced' that they were going to include perfect voice recognition software with Half-Life 3 that would be updated for HL1 and 2 as well. I think it's a fantastic idea (though difficult to implement), but is this true?

since perfect voice recognition software doesn't exist, I think it's extremely safe to steal a quote and say "MYTH BUSTED".

now that we can safely hijack the thread, i think HL3 will feature real scale battles (think of army divisions) and/or liquid/aerodynamic physics

I guess it's fake. No current software/computer that I know of can properly understand what you're saying. That's something for the future.

this thread is where someone said it... i guess its bs though :\

it would enhance the experience of really feeling like youre gordon freeman, though

Sounds like a job for someone else, not a games developer like Valve. I bet valve have a much more interesting innovations lined up for HL3.

If what you heard was true, I imagine that halflife2.net would have already covered it or another popular fan website.

Valve haven't officially announced anything about half life 3 yet, apart from the fact it is planned, and hinted that they will be using the source engine again, upgraded to the then current requirements of systems.

voice recognition has been implemented in games before (SOCOM), of course it wasnt PERFECT voice recognition, but nonetheless.

that'd be practically impossible with current technology. good voice recognition, I mean.

yes, except gordon doesn't speak, ever. so in order to enhane the experiance, the software would be there, but u wouldn't use it.

on the contrary, it would make sense to have voice recognition because valve didnt want gordon to speak since it would not be you speaking, it would be hearing someone else. beinh able to give direct orders with your voice would mean YOU speaking, and the effect would not be broken : YOU are gordon freeman saying things

i disagree, gordon is the strong silent type, if you had talking in it, it would ruin the whole image. even if you are supposed to be gordon, and talk as him, talking to a game is totally useless. think about it, unless you have commands to say (like rainbow 6 : breach room...) there is no point in talking. and halflife is not exactly a squad based game now is it?

Voice recognition in order to accomplish.... what? If you want a feature, you have to explain what it's good for. I can't see what it would be good for in a FPS of HL's genre: at least not good enough to be worthwhile. Now, a MMORPG with voice-recog would be cool, but the AI would have to be VERY powerful, and that's a whole nother design nightmare in itself.

the voice recognition will prolly be about commands etc. like this one game I played for PS2 (soccom navy seals?) you can give your team orders like "Jones>Follow Me" and then the AI named Jones will follow you. It's simple voice recognition and it worked flawlessly. I feel for you if you have an accent tho.
