I think we can all agree with an obvious answer. First of all, the only game ever to make me get online just to talk about how good the damn games just because they're over and no time soon to continue the story. No game can top every aspect and experience I've had with Half Life 2. I personally like it better than part one. I'll never forget putting HL2 in for the first time. I got extra, extra blazed just because i knew how good it was gonna be, but good is an understatement as I've found out. I beat it way too fast, I wish i conserved the gameplay just so I could be in that world that much longer. I just could'nt put it down. Never felt like this with any other game. Something about it is just that damn good.

I didnt know what it was when i started playing it but i did realize it soon and it is right up there, i love how it plays through the storyline

There is a reason that it won over 35 game of the year awards, and is probably the best game of all time.

Meh, not the best game in all existence forever and ever, but still a great one.

Same here. I rented part 2, not knowing a thing about it, except for the whole 35 game of the year awards thing. Definately sounded good. Instantly hooked.

There was no description of it wherever i looked, and no instruction guide, which was more interesting for the story

Oblivion would be good if you didn't need a super computer to run it good.

Speaking of best games ever, it seems that Oblivion has beaten HL2(+EP1) to the number 1 spot in this years PC Gamer's Top 100 PC Games list. And HL1 is not even in the list! I don't mind HL2 losing top spot, but the fact that it has been beaten by freaking Oblivion is just ridiculous!

I know that Half-Life2 is the best game probably of all time but where the hell is company of hereos in that list. :O

I can say +1 for that to lol... I signed up for the same reason.

I tried to read the op, but it was like a block made of words hit me across the eyes, while doused in hot sauce. I'm just going to assume it's positive, and sit in the corner and cry.

I don't really have them as best ever...I mean, for me, there's a small bunch of games that fall in line with each other as the 'best ever', and the Half-life series is in there.

Pc Gamer Sweden had HL2 first, WoW second and Hl1 third. :naughty:

But that was the reader's list. Their own one had Grim Fandango first, followed by HL2.

It really is hard to choose just one game/series to be hailed as the greatest game of all time, but judging off the overall experience I had with this game, it just stuck with me. Sure alot of other games are like, "you'll feel your really there! Awesome story! Amazing CGI scenes! buy buy buy!" but i never get that feeling just sitting in front of a screen with a controller in my hand, kinda hard to shake the reality for the sake of the game on that aspect. Thats where Half-Life 2 changed me, I would really forget I'm playing a game, because I would push more and more towards finding out what was gonna happen, and just to stay in the atmosphere of the game. It's just too damn intriguing. I mean what other game has a huge audience getting online and making many different theories about certain characters, story aspects, and whats going to happen. Its just that damn good. The only game that shook me from my RPG binge. And the whole no real cutscenes is great, its all from Freeman's eyes. Most games just show the character doing something borderline cool, throw a couple lines in there and back to fighting, with sometimes no sense carried on the bandwagon. Half-Life, on the other hand, you'll forget your playing a game, only to barely realize you are, then five seconds later your right back into it. I sometimes sleep with one eye open, expecting a headcrab to jump out any second. This games killed all boundaries.

I don't have a super computer and I can play it maxed on 1280x1024. HL2 and Oblivion are my favorite games though. They just rock!

Half-Life 2 is the best first-person game I've ever played, and arguably the best game, period. Half-Life 1 was great but there are many better games out there. I thought System Shock 2 was considerably better than HL1.

See, Fallout is one of my favorite games of all time. When Bethesda got the license, it became obvious it would be first person. Prior to playing HL2, I would have been angered, wanted it to stay true to the isometirc roots of the series. But HL2 showed me what first person could do. So I'm doubly excited for Fallout 3.

Bottom line, it's good. It's real good.

But it's entirely possible Bioshock comes out of nowhere and kicks it's ass. :cheese:
