Half Life Freezes

This is the only place I figured it would fit so:

When I play half life through steam, it freezes up and exits out. This happens when it goes to load the next area of the game. How can I fix this?

It happened a bit to me aswell, it didnt exit out it just froze, but when i did alt-ctrl-del it kind of gave it a kick up the backside and it carried on.
