Me and my friends are making a Half-life Homemade movie about some Citizen who goes to City 17 the same way everybody else does. THE MOVIE IS WAYYY DIFFERENT THAN THE GAME!! He starts to escape the city on foot like Gordon and gets to a secret base like Eli's. He travels through Ravenholm and gets the second to last jeep. He hears that Barney gets captured and goes to Nova Prospect, gets him out and they get in teleporter and teleport to City 17.
Thats all out group Crowbar Productions has talked about so far. Visit out website. (its not done yet) www.oddwiring.com/share/rs. We're going to post the movie when its done.

And for more information we havnt even started yet.
And still for MORE informetion the first movie will be from Point Insertion to when he gets out of Ravenholm. Second will be Highway 17 to the end. 3rd will be ep 1. 4th will be ep 2 and so on.

Ok , i have some flaws to point out : Why would he follow the exact same route? Why would he go through Ravenholm because BME is still functioning if its set before Freemans arrivale or destroyed after that point. Barney never gets captured. This is doomed to fail TBH.

Jealous of what? They havent even done anything yet...

John Freeman got on his motorcycle and said "It's time for me to live up to my family name and face full life consequences"

This thread reminds me of that. Epic.

LIVE ACTION FULL LIFE CONSEQUENCES

It must be done.

Oh yea, we still havent figured out if the g-man should be in it at all. I know that he is meant to be like only for Gordon but remember Opposing Force. He popped up everywhere for Adrian.
If some people can give me some good reasons to have the g-man in it i'll tell the rest of Crowbar Productions.

And Mech man. When you play HL2 and you go on route kanal you see dead bodys of citizens escaping right? that means that all people escaping go on the same route. And Ravenholm. hmm. I didnt think of that.
Me and the rest of Crowbar Productions were thinking that there is no Gordon Freeman and that the main character (i was thinking of a name like adrian sheperd and gordon freeman and i came up with something like Chris Benson) is kinda like Gordon.
Oh yea, i dont want a Gordon because I dont want to have to ruin his "no talking" thing. And There also will be no Alyx Vance and rest of her family. Barney is taking Alyx's place.
(we might have to add another character that goes with Chris a lot like Alyx)

you will make them using machinimia or something?

or it will be live?

using a camera tripod as a strider?

using angles to give the effect like
close up of someone looking and saying "strideeeeeer!"
and then the tripod whit a flashing light as the gun and the sound of the game
and then the actor again shooting
and then the tripod again
and then the actor falls to the ground
and then back to the strider but zooming in to give the effect of geting closer
and the actor in the ground screaming "aaaaaahhhhhh"
and the the tripod zooming in again
the actor again zooming in too
and the tripod again and viceversa?

and when the manipulator is used a man completely in black will pop up to lift the object to make the effect?

and zombie will be people covered in ketchup whit chickens bought from a supermarket, covering theyr heads?

yea, we're going to tape it and put it on our website (which tottaly sucks for now)

Oh and we're going to use a greenscreen a LOT. and rjmc. Did you make that picture of Ben Stiller with all the cats?

Lol, how exactly do you plan to do this work?

High/low quality? Humorous/Cheesy/Serious?

Well, its going to be serious. I have a greenscreen program that I plan to use so I guess High Quality.
I was thinking of getting pics.... sorry cant say. Crowbar Productions rule.

I'll sue all y'all if you go anywhere near my amazing visual representation of John Freeman.

I'm Chris Benson...and this is my story. *queue Nickelback music*

That kind of goes well with your avatar Glenn.

You know, it's not that different from the game, considering that you make subtle references to events that happen in the game. Try to stray a little far from Gordon's path, like instead of a secret lab, how about the character sneaks into a Combine base and steals an enhanced Combine suit, which grants him superhuman abilities and the ability to survive in a hostile environment. Stuff like that, really. I'm pretty sure that with the right attitude, this movie will come out great.

Someone seriously needs to do a vid with the light-probe 3d technique and render it with a video. Some thing like this:

Here:
watch

I'll use an image as an example:

Green Screen can only make it so much awesome..as seen here

Goddamit, once my exams are over, I'm seriously going to install 3dsmax and make a half life 2 real life film of sorts.

First of those videos was pretty awesome. Other one was...:| not so good...

And Mech man. When you play HL2 and you go on route kanal you see dead bodys of citizens escaping right?

Actually on the canal they werent escaping , they were stop off points for people who were escaping. The only way i think this could work is if you went near some of the areas but not in them , like ravenholm , why not go around it? That will sort that problem out , exept you would want a zombie bit right? No probs a train tunnel filled with zombies (remember Ravenholm was near a train depot.) Anyway good luck.

For the Blue Screen video I did a similar thing,

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=101109

I took a still image of the real world, outside my house for example, then in the blue map above (plus a few console commands were needed to alter the lighting), I recorded HL2 stuff in Gmod, then overlaid it on my still image.

It worked pretty good and looked awesome, only downside is that it takes a LOT of time to make it bearable to watch.

It will be an ametuer production so Im guessing this will end up being hella cheesy, if you are gonna do a film on Half-Life 2, please for the love of god make sure you do it justice.

It will suck, inevitably. Low-cost indie movies ike this always do, unless it's a comedy.
Now, a good serious indie movie was that Halo thing.

That video has nothing to do with green screens. You use a green screen to incorporate live action footage into a cg environment, not to incorporate cg footage into live action environments.

EDIT: LOL. After reading the description, I see that the guy did use green screens for it. What a waste of time. He couldve just rendered the characters and used its alpha channel to put it in the scene without any keying at all.

The method I used using a blue map was a very easy and quick method - especially with the features Gmod offer to control NPCs and props.

I don't see how it was a waste of time. It takes seconds to do.

What program are you using?

Keying in the editing suite, or...?

Be sure to get even lighting on the greenscreen even or else you'll get horrible shadows and you'll have to reshoot. You can get discs of green LEDs that fit around most camera-lenses that help with this and stuff.

That's the only thing I can really say on greenscreening. :) Have fun.

Edit:

Oh, I haven't been to your site or anything, so I dont' know how much experience you have, let me give some tips I've learnt from experience:

- Get a good raw-footage to final-footage ratio, something like 10:1, you think you've done something perfect in one take? Too bad. Do it again, you'll thank me post-production. ;D

- Get a good source of foley and replacement sound, if you're using an in-built microphone in the camera forget about it, you're going to replace all the audio.

A good, quick site for stuff such as door creaks and shit: www.soundsnap.com

- Save, save, save, during post production! I've lost so much crap due to crashes and stuff on sub-par hardware.

- Get a big HDD. D:

- Make a plan for what you'll shoot when! I've found a lot of people like "Shooting on the fly", and it usually ends up frustrating and you'll run out of sunlight. :(
