I just finished installing Half-Life and the 1.1.1.0 patch. I start up the game, and first off I get an error saying "Unable to load file valve\gfx\splash.bmp". The menu comes up though. So I set up my options and everything, but then when I try to start a new game an error box comes up saying "Host_Init: Couldn't load gfx\palette.lmp" And then the game closes. Any ideas on how to get this game to work?

It's possible that the installation might have messed up. Try reinstalling.
If you've already tried reinstalling then I have no clue. :bonce:

First, check to see if that file is in fact at that location oh your hard drive, if so... then uninstall HL, reinstall it and redo all the patches. Without more info on what versions you had or the patch path you took that's about all the help I can think of.

Well now on top of that, I'm getting InstallShield errors during my new attempts at installing HL.

My install directory is C:\Games\Half-Life
my patch directory is C:\Games\Half-Life

You don't if you dont want to use Steam with HL. Yet.
Mines in: C:\Sierra\Half-Life

So it still works fine.

If it is an evil pirate-copy it could be as simple as that.
