It would be nice if we can see Half Life 2 3D Menus in Windows Background or screensaver. I think it is not possible what you think??

I really don't think windows supports FPS backrounds :\ and i guess i won't install it cuz my lame xp would startup after 5 minutes :\ just take a screenshot and pop it as your desktop...

I'd say that it would be impossible, or too impractical. Windows loading times would be tripled, at the very least.

it is very impossable.

the menu for half life 2 is basically a MAP.

it is loading up a map for the main menu! the background runs by the half life 2 engine. so no very impossable to have as a windows background you could take a screenshot and use the screenshot as the windows background

it IS possible but it would slow windows down so ****ing much it would be impossible to do ANYTHING. u would need most of the proccessing power alone for the background. macs have cool color changing backgrounds that color and shape shift all the time

maybe when longhorn comes out... since it will have 3d abilities... you could have a animated 3d background

plus, it wont be practical running games with that desktop, as the pc will struggle to render your desktop while you're playing.

I remeber that someone saidthat if you recorded a movie, perhaps with fraps, you could use those RAD tools or somthing like that to convert it to a screensaver. I am not sure if you can actually do that but I heard this on another forum.

It would be better to take a demo, dump it to frame by frame screenshots, then reassemble it in a video editing program as an AVI, then convert it to a bink exe, which you can run as a screensaver (and theres programs out there for converting screensavers to advanced backdrops)

This is possible in osx and linux, but only possible. It isn't something you can h4x0r together and have working in an hour. WindowsXP and longhorn may be able to do this is in the future.

Just take lots of screenies of the bg in hl2 and then make them as .gif... tho thatd eat up ur processor and it would be shitty loooking...

If you could make a animation of what you wanted in Flash, you can put is as your desktop using Flash Desktop (http://www.toplang.com/flashdesktop/index.htm). I have not tried this myself to see how much of a slowdown it would produce, but it may be worth playing around with. I will try it later (when I am not at work ;) ), and let you all know how it works. you would not get a completely random set of actions (like the real intro screen for city 17), but if you could set it to loop right, you could get it working quite convincingly.

I make flash desctops all the time... windows has an "active desktop" mode, where it can load htmls. I just load flashes into them.
