I think that if Steam made a MMORPG (massivly multiplayer online role playin game) for halflife it would be the best game ever.
You could pick a side combine/rebels or any other races steam will add to hl in the upcoming sequels.
You could do what u wanted, get in a group and go antlion huntin or go put some zombies out of thier pain. :E
It could be the same screen layout as hl2 (first person)
itll be good if u could get your weapon skills up so the gun didnt move as much when u fired or decrease your reloading times. :hmph:
Maybe u could get a buggy, or some type of veichle and give other people a lift while they shot the crap of the opposing side (combine / rebels).
Just an idea
gotta admit it would be awesome

Post what u reckon would make this type of halflife a 10/10 game.

I have to say.......bad idea. The Half-Life story just doesnt fit into a MMO. Basically it'd be a huge deathmatch. If you want to see this in action, sign up for Face of Mankind. Imagine that game with Source graphics. Utter chaos.

But if it were a mod which had nothing to do with HL, it would be a nice idea because Steam has the network capability.

MMORPG that's planning to be released via Steam.

What does this have to do with anything relating to what he is saying.

1. Thats some Pirate game and not even related to Half-Life 2

2. Not being made on the Source Engine.

3. Not made by Valve.

4. Not a mod

The only relevance this has is that they are using steam to distribute it.

PS. And there is a $10 a month fee :(

Because of this....

He wanted something, I gave the link..

Dinkleberry knows what im saying
I dont see why it wouldnt fit into the hl2 universe.
I mean the rebels could live outside the cities, i reckon it would be mad i would easily pay 15 bucks a month for it, one problem i can see which will most probably be overcome in a few years at the rate we are advancing, what do u get when u have a high quality fps like halflife in a gigantic map, you are gonna get lagg.

(Just say you were playing as rebels)
I reckon we wil be able to overcome it but. I reckon it would kick if you could get into a group and go on a raidng party into one of the combines outposts to get better at using a weapon, just wanna do it for fun or any other possible reason.
You can imagine been combine if this happend you could see a buggy quicky approaching your outpost, you would run to the nearest mounted gun and start shooting like crazy at the rebels trying mince them before they did the same to you.

Doesnt anyone reckon this is good? :(

There IS a mmorpgs coming out ON the source engine, it looks awsome, its a fps but with rpg elements and you can play in servers with 3000 people :O, go on Steam and click news, there will be a news bulletin about a survey on a mmorpg. Click on it and fill it out to support Gator (people who are making it on the source engine)

its called Twilight War: After the Fall

You can see it looks awsome here :

Have you played Planetside? It's quite a lot like what you described a Resistance raid to be like.

I don't think it would work. HL2's universe and storyline don't suit it very well IMO.

Where s the RPG element? you know the whole stat building thing...
if it's first person the skils are completely based on your trigger finger, not a stat/ability the you had to work on. So it'd be more like a MMODMWNRPGCE/S (Massively Multiplayer Online Death Match With No Role Playing Game Combat Element/Stats).
But if you can get around that problem go right ahead.

VALVe have already said that they might be interested in doing one after Half-Life 3, anything's possible! Remember MMORPG's are very expensive and time consuming (risky too) but if HL3 is as successful is HL1 & 2 I see no reason why they couldn't fund the development of one themselves. Whether it would be set in the Half-Life universe or not is difficult to say.

Well, not that I think it's a good idea but I love RPG elements (except Deus Ex2's)

Like the guy said you could:

decrease reloading times
gain better accuracy.

I have some ideas of rewards for gaining experience:

walk/run faster
longer lasting flashlight
higher jumps
better armor
be able to use better guns as you gain levels
upgradeable guns . example: lazer sights, scopes, extended clips

RPG's kick ass. Second only to HL2. combine them. heh (pun not intended) and you have a cool game, but...

I think it would work better as a single player offline RPG. similar to deus Ex's upgrades

It will never happen, so get over it. Valve is not going to create a whole new spinnoff, they have thier hands full trying to introduce the masses to HL2. Probably working on getting it ported to console systems, or working on HL3

Try Deus Ex2 invisible war instead

You got a point i just mean a massively mutliplayer online game
I dont see why it wouldnt fit into the storyline, it probably wouldnt fit in hl2 because the rebelion is just begining, but in future halflifes i reckon if the rebels moved out of the cities it would fit in great. ;)
The only problem would be if too many people wanted ot be either combine or rebels cause the team with a far lower amount of users would be getting killed all the time. :sniper: :(

Thanks for the tip i hope they do make one (obviously) but not if their company is gonna come crashing down shortly after. :)

Hopefully steam is trying to get lots more people to play halflife, they should put some adds out. If there are lots of people wanting to play they wont mind paying a monthly fee :) (if it turns out really good).
Those ideas would be pretty good aswell.
Even if Steam dd start making it right at this very moment i doubt i would be out for at least 4 years.

Do you think if Steam made a Halflife MMOG it would be a smart or not smart move, at this time?

How could Steam itself make a game? Don't you mean Valve?

Yeah whatever.. Valve.
Do you think if VALVE made a Halflife MMOG it would be a smart or not smart move, at this time?

It would probably be a monthly fee, like in all MMORPG.

Say hello to the shrinking in your head, you can't see it but you know it's there so don't neglect it.

And so once again, my Dear Jhonny, my dear friend. And so once again, you are fighting us all.

And when I ask you why, you raise your sticks and cry and I fall... Ohg, my friend. How did you come? To trade the fiddle for the Dtrum?

I thought about this a while ago. The Half Life universe would be an excellent setting for a MMORPG/RPG IMO. Gordon has destroyed the citadel and the combines hard link to the earth. Likely, the resistance uprising has spread through the other number cities and in some instances it's reasonable to assume that the rebels arrested the cities back into human possesion and are activley setting about trying to re-establish civilisation.
The combine are still a local threat to humans, but without the leadership of the advisors, are isolated and un-united. Mankind is still reeling from losing most of their population and useable land and simply don't have the infrastucture to be able to eliminate the combine. So you will have human controlled areas and areas still under the (diminished) grip of the Combine.
That gives you a nice conflict which is likley to come down to a war of attrition.

Mix in the post apocaliptic setting in a landscape that is now part alien, and you have a varied and dangerous landscape to explore.

There will still be much of use to be found in the destroyed towns and cities, akin to the magic items you find dotted around fantasy settings.

All the aspects are there IMO and lets face it, who wants to turn down the opportunity to immerse yourself even more into Halflife, and pick up ever more detailed amounts of lore?

Kinda what im thinking
Another question did the combine put around earth or to stop humans reproducing?
