Half-Life SP/MP Issues with Steam

I really enjoy playing HL alot as I'm sure most of you do as well. Maybe you all play mods and such but sometimes, I like to go back to the gold days with Old Skool Half-Life single player and a bit of multiplayer. I've been playing these and I've ran across a few problems that are very unfamiliar to me. I don't remember these problems before Steam. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a Steam hate thread... I instead, think that something has gone wrong with my HL. Try and help me out. That would be super d00per :dork:

Upon entering single player, I will play through to a part which requires loading. After the load happens, the game continues for a short second then freezes for about a second. It does this twice, right after the other, after each loading period. I wonder what's up there :hmph:

Upon entering a nice multiplayer game in which I am pinging at about 20-30, a serious issue arrises. As I shoot a gun like the good 'ol sub machine gun, the animation and sound of the gun shooting is not to be found. As I continue to shoot however, I somehow do hit things. I know this because I just went 15-2 on Boot Camp without ever seeing a bullet flying out of my gun. Again, I wonder what's up with my HL? Should I re install?

I hope that someone will be able to help me. Please reply asap because I just don't like my HL to not work as it should. I hope Steam isn't screwin wit me too badly. :flame:

Umm... yeah dont know what to tell you, re-installing works for alot of people, so if you are willing to try that I would go for it, and if that doesnt work get some better help than me.

Should I reinstall Steam or just HL because that's the only game that seems to be acting out strangely. :monkee:

Well... I don't just don't understand this in the least bit. Why does Steam screw with all of my Single player games? Even my multiplayer games don't "lag" like I do in Single player. Every one of my SP games including: Half-Life, Opposing Force, and CZ: Deleted Scenes, lags at some point (mainly after a load, which happens at least once every 2-3 minutes). I'm afraid that if I uninstall it won't do anything because mainly, this doesn't at all seem like it would help. When any of you play your one player games, do you ever feel like you lag a tad every now and then? Help plz. I sure hope HL2 doesn't do this when it ports to Steam.

Your SP problem is just the quicksaves after every load.

When I play SP I sometimes get a problem where the game will just freeze my movement. I can still look around / change weapons / and use various other commands but i'll be stuck in one spot. The only way out of it is to restart the game too.

Pssh. Nevermind. I guess I just can't explain my problem, and why would it be the quicksaves? Is there any way to turn quick saving off?
