Hi everyone, what mapping software will initially be avaliable for Halflife 2? After using XSI for a month and just trying (HL 1) hammer I've found the interface to be so clunky and useless. I hope the HL2 version is a big improvement

Same interface, I'm afraid.

Personally, I love it like a brother.

takes a bit of getting used to but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I think it is just what the engine ordered, and I guess Valve agrees

I tend to love it more like a Woman just to avoid any conflict. :dozey:

That can get messy though...

I love the Hammer/WC interface compared to Quake Army Knife.. that thing was a a mess and a half tryin to create a level. theres a few things that hammer could have done better with, like maybe a bit better with cylinders and arches.. kinda like makin them in 3ds max, but oh well.. you learn >=D

Im not so sure it loves us back.. ive seen someone love wc and create massive maps.. not save.. and CRASH!! it sucks bad.. thats bout the only thing ive seen with VHE (Hammer) that sucks.. it tends to crash a bit

I begged and begged valve to add an incremental autosave to Hammer ages ago. I can only hope that they've experienced enough crashes during development that they felt compelled to add it.

god that would be great to have. there are programs you can get (somewhere) to autosave all things open, like word, frontpage, photoshop etc if I happen to find one I will post it here

Ctrl + S = all I need. My fingers are glued to those keys through my time using Worldcraft. So much so in fact Ive worn out the letter S on my Keyboard.

method I go by is build a section of brushwork (for example an intersection of two pathways), save, compile on fullbright to take a look at it, come back to the editor and move on. Don't you think you might be a bit paranoid if you wore the s key off? Whatever works for you of course, but I think a regiment like that just might drive me crazy :frog:
