Halflife2 demo and full version... Safe to manually remove demo folder?

I had the Halflife2 demo installed and noticed that when I installed the orange box games (full version of HL2) the demo left steam. I can still find it manually on the computer and it runs. My question is... Can I just remove the folder to uninstall it safely as the game is not listed in steam to do it there? Windows uninstall list just opens steam so that's no good.
