Hello!

I'm having trouble starting Halflife2.

After the installtion and decryption of the files for HL2 I tried to start the game. Steam says that it is preparing the game start of Halflife and that's it.
The hl2.exe is a running process (as seen in the taskmanager) but the game won't start. There wasn't an error message so I have no clue what the exact problem is. I played the demo on the same machine, so the hardware should be ok.

Would be great if anyone has a hint what to do, so I can finally play HL2.
Thanks in advance for your help :)

Well if you have sloww ass comp like mine it takes a while mines like 40 secs lol.

lol, well... if it would only take a while, it would be great. Once I started the game and went to dinner... when I return about an hour later, nothing had happend.
Would say, that would make my computer the slowest thing on earth ;-)

I'm not entirely sure why this could happen, but you may have a corrupted launch file or something along the lines. The first thing i would suggest is to validate your HL2 files. Do this by closing steam firstly. Then go to start ---> run and paste this line in the box.

steam://validate/220

Press ok and it will bring up a progress bar checking your HL2 for missing files or corrupted ones. Let us know if that fixes anything.

Right-click on Half-Life 2 in Steam, go to Properties, and see if the amount acquired is 100%. If it isn't, it still needs to update. Make sure that 'always keep this game up to date' is selected

Yeah I also have this problem and thus far Steam support has not come up with an answer for me. I tried the verification thing but nothing changed afterwards. Now it used to work fine then all of a sudden it started doing this :naughty:

ANything else to try? I think am going to try unsinstalling steam and see what happens.

Tried re-installing and nothing changed. Steam support seem to think its something to do with my connection or firewall but have changed my modem and turned of the firewall so it can't be that :(

We'll see what they come up with next.

re-install winblows, fixed it for me.

It took three days for steam support to request additional sysinfo from, bleh.

I can do all those things without that (iffy if I may say) program.
Screwing around with making an unattended setup script is quite wasteful in contrast to using this app, which works very well from my experience.
And you don't even have to install microshit .not, there is 4MB version comprised of only needed runtimes.

If only Valve would release a Linux client...
