Halflife2 Freeze In Video Option Advance Settings

When changing any advance video settings in half life 2 my the game freezes.. when i press atl-ctrl-del i find the halflife 2 game has stopped responding.

2.6ghz (400fsb)
hercules 3d prophet 9800XT 256mb
512 ddr (333mhz)

also when playing the game its very laggy. i even turned down the settings to 800X600 but still laggy. cant change the advance settings

just takes a really long time to change if the game is already running a map, what you wanna do is enable the console by typing -console in the launch options under properties in steam, that way the background to the menu doesnt load, then change the settings before you start a map. Also you could be having the audio stutter bug like alot of other people which is causing you poor performance with you system specs you should be able to run the game all high settings without much performance hit. Valve is fixing the stuttering issues so be patient.

yes i had the audio stutter too when i first ran it. but now it seams to have vanished

the stuttering is worse at high video resolution. seams to disapear at low ones.

i ran it 1280 X 1024 very bad stuttering and it stop responding.

i had a VPU recovery with the catylst drivers .first time i had this come up ever. and it sent a email to ATI .
