Falling Leaf Systems offers preorders of Halo 2 and Shadowrun for Windows XP announces a merger between the VAIO and Alky software projects, which they say will result in a software package to allow Windows XP owners to play Halo 2 and Shadowrun, both released as Windows Vista exclusives. They offer preorders of both games to be fulfilled through Amazon, promising a free copy of the compatibility software "within a few months." There is no word on what will happen should this interoperability software fail to materialize, nor is it clear whether this is something Microsoft might take issue with, but there is the following statement from Falling Leaf Systems CEO Brian Thomason:

?Microsoft has, in typical Microsoft fashion, decided to launch their forced migration onslaught in full force with the release of two games that will only run on Windows Vista,? stated Thomason. ?First they claim that it was impossible to implement DirectX 10 compatibility atop Windows XP, and now they also want us to believe that they couldn?t successfully launch two DirectX 9 based titles on XP either. We plan to expose both theories as patently false.?

meh, still not interested in halo 2 for pc..or shadowrun for that matter. Still it seems silly to have to purchase 3rd party software when that money could go to a copy of vista

well I'm sure microsoft will set them straight

I'll definitely give Halo 2 a go if it does in fact run on XP.

It doesn't. Vista only, man.

And Shadowrun sucks beyond anything I've ever played. To balance the PC vs. Xbox, they added a non-reversible mouse lag to the PC gamers. They defend it but saying "it's our style of gaming" when if fact it's impossible to aim with the mouse.

True but that's what the article is trying to say. People are trying to reverse this. It was going to happen at some point.

Oh, how I loved my Bleemcast!. The games actually looked and worked better...

Maybe you can figure out what I'm saying.

Meh, I guess the only way I'll ever get to play Halo 2 within the next year or so is if I cave and buy an xbox or 360.
Because I'm not touching Vista for atleast the next 3/4 years.

This is really exciting! Oh wait, it's still a port of a 3 year old game that nobody cares about. /crawls back under rock

If they reverse this won't it not run slower than on Xp cause won't they have to emulate some features like Live. I'll stick to playing Halo 2 on Vista i just wish there wasn't so much mouse lag

Doesn't make a shit game any better.

Anyone who bought Shadowrun thinking it would be any different is a moron, since they all but said PC play was gimped in all the previews and interviews.

And Halo 2 on PC is laughable and pointless.
