Is anyone here going to the Halo 3 Launch events? In New York, they are 7 mins away from Halo 3 bliss.

I'm going to the one in Bellevue. This is the home town of Bungie so it should be frickin awesome! There's actually a total of three launch parties in my area.

1) The official BestBuy one which is being advertised (and the one I'm probably going to go to).

2) The un-official one at EBGames in Redmond, which is two blocks away from Bungie.

3) A private invite-only launch party held at my school, DigiPen, that only juniors / seniors were invited to. :( I walked out of school and saw a bunch of camera crews around waiting for the Bungie guys to show up at school. Bungie is so cool to do that for us :D Too bad I wasn't invited.

Shitty thing is I have a test tomorrow, which isn't going to be fun... :(

I went with a friend who picked it up just a few minutes ago, I didn't have it pre-ordered so they didn't even let me in the store when he finally made it to the end of the line.

I'll just pick it up in a couple weeks (or days), no rush here.

No, This shit doesnt deserve this. ****ing shit.

Heh, I loved the original Halo - and loathed the second. I hope this one will actually.. you know... take the series forward this time.

There's no denying that the Halo games can be quite amusing, and at times incredibly atmospheric, even if the gameplay is somewhat of a throwback to the times of primitive FPS gameplay. The high production always show, and for that I'll buy it.

Of course it's also the reigning console champ as far as multiplayer accessibility, simply because of the nature of console gaming. Next Generation put it well in this article, and I genuinely agree, the overwhelming popularity of something like Halo 3 is in many ways a good thing for the industry.

This of course makes Halo 3 big business, which means the financial press is also watching the release with huge interest. In this case, the quality of Bungie’s work is but a secondary concern; rather, outlets like MSNBC are looking at the game as the product that will “fire up flagging Xbox fortunes” and finally turn a profit for the entertainment and devices division of Microsoft. That division has been hugely unprofitable since the launce of the Xbox in 2001, but analysts are strating to look at Halo 3 as a possible culmination of that effort. Microsoft itself has called Tuesday “the biggest day in retail entertainment history,” a bit of hype that may also be lived up to. The game has already pre-sold over 1.5 million copies, breaking the industry pre-sale record held by Halo 2. Analysts think Halo 3 will break other records held by earlier games in the series; The Boston Globe has reported that Directions on Microsoft analyst Matt Rosoff believes the game will sell more than its predecessors.

At this point, every bit of evidence in the world shows that it would not be surprising if Halo 3 trumps its competition and its lineage in every way this fall. It’s a rarity when the industry’s most visible product finds both market success and universal praise and admiration. Halo 3 has achieved this rare state, and the whole industry will benefit from it.

Wait, this is the last halo isnt it? I didnt care for the 2nd one either and the first was ok on pc, but the multiplayer got stale pretty quick. Anyways thats cool though, events like this reminds me of how far video games have come.

btw headcrab i love your sig.

Why thank you.

And to answer your question, one would assume so given the ending (which you can find online without much effort). But if Microsoft and commerce have anything to say about it, I would very much doubt this will be the last one. The franchise will be milked and milked akin to Star Wars just because of the fact that Halo is now a household name and people will line up to pay 60 dollars for the most basic copy.

Ah yea thats right cant forget about halo wars, I guess I should have clarified I meant the trilogy:

GameSpy: You mentioned the Halo movie. This is the third game in the Halo trilogy, and you have Halo Wars coming up. Are you wracking your brains to figure out what to do next? Perhaps a "Halo: the Movie" game?"

Shane Kim: Well, we don't do games based on movies. So this is actually the reverse. I'm not nervous at all about the trilogy ending. I was talking about this with someone else earlier. The feeling I want people to have after they finish Halo 3 is the same feeling they had when "Return of the King" ended. Satisfied, but sad. But there will be other stories to tell in the Halo world, just like there are other stories to tell in that world as well.

Well I think making a movie would probably suck, but atleast with halo wars they are trying to mix it up alittle by exploring different genres.

I'm glad theres a Crysis thread - it gives me a clear insight on who to take seriously when it comes to games discussion. The one's who are rooting for Crysis' image and talk endlessly about how well it runs/ran in the beta are the people I know to ignore.

Back on topic, I'd like to go along to the midnight launch here in Wolverhampton but theres really no point. I have classes at 9am so I wouldn't bother playing it when I got home, and it'll be cold. But still, between the midnight release and to when I actually go up town in the afternoon, I'd much rather just have it, in my hands, as soon as I can.

The multiplayer in Halo 1 on PC was shit compared to the Xbox version, and the majority of Halo 2 on Xbox was shit as well.

The only games I've been excited about since HL2 came out are The Orange Box and Halo 3. I'm sure that sentence is worth something to someone.

You can almost bet your ass this isn't the last Halo game.

What it is, is the ending of the current Halo trilogy. If they ever revisit the Halo universe, it's going to be totally different plot and characters and such (probably no Master Chief!).

*Edit* For last night, I first drove to Best Buy. Line was too ****ing long. Then I drove to EB Games, and line was too long again. So, we drove to a local store which we had no idea if they were having a midnight event, and sure enough it was a secret oasis :D Red bull was giving the few of us free red bull (though I had a test this morning and didn't drink it) which was cool. Pretty quiet, non-eventful launch "party" but it was good because there was barely any line. I have yet to play it though. :-\ Just don't feel like it right now haha.

I think Halo is okay. I mainly play the games out of loyalty to I Love Bees, which is a great story. Too bad the Halo stories are trite in comparison.

I'm secretly pleased that Halo3 is getting such a ridiculously overhyped release though, because more people will flock to the 360. Seeing as I own one of the damn things and I flatly refuse to fork out for a PS3, I want the console to become so popular that Sony eventually becomes bust and MGS4 gets released on the 360. Snake! Snaaaake! I WANT YOU SNAKE!

The feeling I want people to have after they finish Halo 3 is the same feeling they had when "Return of the King" ended. Satisfied, but sad.

Well then they f*cked that up big time by throwing in the Legendary ending clip...

Monday night as midnight came around (and I finished watching Heroes) I realized I wasn't as tired as I thought I'd be so I figured I'd go out and grab Halo 3. I knew right away I was gonna skip by Gamestop because there would be a big line. Sure enough as I passed Gamestop at about 12:20AM there were still at least 50 people still waiting outside in the cold. Besides, I would've needed a preorder probably. I headed to Wal-Mart. I walk right in, go to the back, ask for a copy (one of the 200+ copies they had at the layaway desk), pay for it with no line whatsoever and walk out. I passed the same line by Gamestop as I drove back home, throwing the disc in my drive by 12:30.

Silly Gamestop suckers.

I agree, matter of fact, G4TV had a countdown to celebrate the launch of Halo 3. :|

G4 had a countdown to the release for the other 2 Halo that released (2 & 3) and a freakin' show to yap, rant, and rave every day about Halo and glorify it. I even lol'ed when one of the developers called it --"The Halo francise is one of the greatest frachises in the history, if not the best." Ugh.

Yuck.
