I've been going through some screenshots of Halo, which I'm really looking forwars to, even though a lot of you guys say that it sucks.
I just noticed these screenshots:

It reminds me a lot of an old MAC game, also made by Bungie, called Marathon. Look at these pictures:

For those of you who've tried both games, can you please confirm or disconfirm that Halo is like Marathon? Marathon ****ing ROCKED, so I'm looking forward to Halo!

Not workin for me even with copy and paste. Says they've been removed.

Looks lovely :) Is it abandonware yet or anything? Will it run on PC's? (Cos I got an old PC kicking around... )

EDIT: And Halo rocks, it's just it doesn't run well on some people's machines with full specs... oh boo hoo :P

It's so much fun... I could talk about cool fights I've had all day... :D

HALO does indeed, rock i just bought it
so badger... who's gonna review it? :p

There's a demo of Marathon 2: Durandal!

Then there's demo of Marathon (the 1st) for MACS only

Here are some more screens from Marathon.
These green guys constantly scream: "Argh, they're everywhere!"

The rocketlauncher looks a bit like the one from Halo...a bit!

I'm getting it on Friday so I'll be delighted to review it!

EDIT: Is there a co-op feature in Halo on PC?

Original Marathon game is available in open source:

more Bungie stuff (Halo, Oni, Marathon):

Original Marathon storyline (very very complex):

I've got lots of other links. I'm a huge Marathon fan, and since I've played through about half of Halo for PC I've seen all kinds of Marathon easter eggs - even the voices ("They're Everywhere!!!"). Anyone who wants help/advice installing Marathon/Aleph One let me know. Also, you can still buy Marathon 2: Durandal for PC on Half.com. One other thing, there is a high-res texture set that replaces hundreds of textures in Aleph One, makes the game look much better.

I used to play the Marathon 1&2 demos on my old 250mhz 603e Macintrash. It was an awesome game.

P.S. Not all Mac's are trash, just mine.

Loads and loads has been written on the connections between Marathon and Halo. There's extraordinarly strong evidence that the two are connected, with Marathon having taken place sometime in Halo's past.
The Marathon logo even appears in the Halo logo and on the Pillar of Autumn.
The conspiracy theories about it that I've seen run just as deep as all the HL2 ones. :D

Well, bungie made both, they would have to get the inspiration for halo from somewhere.

Here is a link to a legal and full version of Marathon 2: Durundal for the PC.

One of the best FPS of all time, and to answer the original question, the games do not play alike at all. Unfortunately, Marathon is far superior in terms of gameplay and story. I can't belive they are made by the same company and I also can't belive that a game released so far after by the same company woul dbe so much worse.

Anyway, enjoy the game if you can get past the graphics. The dual shotguns are still my favorite weapon in any game ever.

Getright won't pick up on that file >.< I'll have to do a bit of haxxing if I'm gonna be able to download it :P

By the way, I'm the guy who is making a HL2 mod for Marathon (the original game, not either sequel yet). So far I'm going solo on it, so who knows how long it will be....

AH, that's ****ing sweet! Make sure to get the machinegun/rocketlauncher in it as well!

Here's the first terminal view from Marathon (free via the Aleph One link in my post above), with high definition textures added (also a free download):

And another:

I really think it's worth the effort of all you real fps fans to install Marathon and give it a try - especially now that the high definition textures are available for the game. The story of Marathon is told through the AI's aboard the ship "Marathon," through the terminals (as one is seen in the first photo); it is a complex, many-layered story that is sort of like playing through a sci-fi novel as it happens.

Oh yeah, it's clearly that the textures have been improved...

I'm gonna download this when I get broadband :D glad it's on theunderdogs :)

Anyway... Halo is great... so much fun :D

Damn...I can't edit my last post since it's been over 15 min since I posted it.
Well, mrBadger you can change your signature, because I think I'm becoming a Halo fanboy too
