Halo story or Half-life series story?

Half-life 2 storyline walks all over Halo and then spits back to boot. I like the Halo storyline, but it has nothing on HL - especially when it comes to narrative and presentation, where HL2 manages true non-linearity in terms of delivery.

i agree with you samon, but i saw 'samon' on the last reply i thought i was going too get flamed :P

I prefer the OpFor storyline over both...yea i went there and said it was its own storyline! :o

:shh:

I've yet to see Halo create a villian as menacing and mysterious as the G-man.

Definately Half-Life.

F*ck get to cover. You may have triggered an hl2.net salmonsploshen!

Half - Life for me. I enjoy being able to play through key story events rather than watching some fancy cinematic.

One of the greatest things about the halflife story was that you weren't just dropped in the middle of something, trying to figure out the whole backstory to what has happened which is unrealistic to your character. You are Gordon before ANY of the real story happens. I didn't know wtf was going on in Halo.

Halo for me although I didn't like it's story that much either, it's just that I do not like hl's story nor do I like the way it's told at all.

Half-Life's story is way better than Halo's in my opinion.

Though I did Enjoy Halo 1, hated 2. Love all of the Half-Life games and it's mods.

They both have the same story. Aliens invade.

But one has religious/metrosexual bitches and the other has faceless doombringers of dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom.

And death.

Half-Life.

Narrative method is genius.
Backstory is infinitely more loaded with awesomeness.
Characters are more memorable.
Both the scientific and social concepts it integrates are interesting.
Dialogue can be exceptionally well-written (ie. the Breencasts).

Halo has a good enough story. It doesn't wow me, but it's solid. Just not enough to pull me in as much as HL does.

This is coming from somebody who liked the first Halo, but was disappointed in nearly every aspect with Halo 2. It's left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

My perceptive skills are somewhat off today. Are you joking with this comment?

Half-Life by a mile.

Although Halo's story isn't too terribly bad, it's also a bit generic. Still, I'd say it was the best part of the game.

Impartial forums would've been a better choice...

Halo's story is alright, the novels are good at least (heck they have more story than the games) but Half-Life fo'sho.

Both good, both have different their unique aspects (and generic) but...
Halo > HL2 overall

Came in here to say that.

The first Halo had a great and simple storyline, the second one had a really average one which ruined all the great things about the original.

The storyline in the half-life games are fantastic, but only if you pay attention to a large amount of small details throughout both games. Most gamers will miss them, but if you can pick up on these little things the story goes from "average" to "pretty damn good". Hence part of the reason the Half-Life games are so popular.

The Half Life story is told better in the context of the video game than Halo, but I don't think Halo's story is weak in and of itself. I give the win to Half Life because of the depth of the characters. There may be as much depth to the characters in Halo by way of the printed literature, but you don't get that from the game.
