HALP! S.T.A.L.K.E.R. won't work...

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl isn't working for me. It keeps crashing at startup with a message:

Well the first logical question to ask is: are any other games giving you similar errors?

Also, are you installing from the same CD? And did you fully delete STALKER from the drive you installed it on including any/all registry entries? Finally, have you made any major changes to your PC recently in terms of hardware or software (or tweaked anything in windows or downloaded any system changing programs or drivers)?

Dude, it's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - born to crash. It's a travesty because the game is otherwise quite good. I take it you've patched the game? Does it crash every time you go to run it or just sporadically?
