hammer - need help with setup

is there a walkthrough to setting up the hammer editor for begginers? i ask because the documentation is missing from the sdk and i dont know what all those confusing options and buttons mean at the start up :-S plz help

I've done all that, but when I press file>new Hammer tells me I don't have any textures set up... :hmph:
Help please..?
