Handheld Strider Weapon!

The weapon just before the hovercraft scene looks like a handheld strider gun.

Why? Because when they shot the weapon at the combine that opened the door to the house the combine disappeared like the citizens did when they got shot full strength of the strider's attack. That white outline glow of the body.

That brings up another discussion, what happens to the people that get strider zapped? My first thought was HL2's way of showing teleportation.

teleportation gun? i don't know, it seems to do damage to gordon and leaves his ears ringing whenever it hits near him.

i think its a way to show some sort of futuristic disintegration effect

i don't know why the bodies go into slow motion ragdoll when they are hit by it though instead of regular ragdoll

It doesn't look like it'd be quite as pleasant as teleportation.

It looks like a sort of displacement beam. Everything organic it hits gets scrambled.

I think the people are disintegrated. I mean, they turn into ashes before they disappear.

And I liked that gun better when it set people on fire. ;(

Somebody on this forum noted that the death-effect of the strider's gun and this weapon were similar, but not identical. Must be some kind of Combine technology.

I love how it blasts the guy back 15 feet before he starts floating.

Incinerator grenade mode could be the secondary fire, possibly.

The beam made their bodys evaporated. Look at Gordon's Health he had 85 point, with one single beam his body evaporated. The location of the evaporation is :

10:57 up to 11:08

Come to think of it, isn't a flaregun in the game? Maybe that will set people on fire. Maybe they changed that gun because it was too similar to the flaregun.

Maybe... YEAH, I still get to set people of FIRE!!!! :flame: :flame: :flame:

That was speculated to be the flare gun, and it set things on fire in the beta. I set the giant antlion on fire with it, but that damn thing never dies. I eventually killed it then blew it away and the fire didn't move with it. The fire's "personality" looks messed a little in HL2, even in the video, did anyone notice the fire went instantly out on the scene with all the zombies and before the razor blades with the manipulator.

Not all the fire went out instantly. A lot of it kept burning for a bit. Also, large explosions can actually blow out small fires, especially if the explosions are themselves not very firey.

no one said what it was going to be... but I think it is called the incendary rifle.

:dozey: The "Strider Gun" that Gordon has is the I-Rifle(Incendiary Rifle-possible name change). Remember, back in the tunnels video the I-Rifle shot a sort of metal object with fire around it and it burned that combine guy. Possibly the new footage we saw where the gun made those Combine soldiers discentergrate(spell check please) is an alternate fire mode. Or perhaps Valve changed the way the gun works, due to the leak. Some things were changed from what they used to be before I.E. Rollermines.

The noise makes my eyes water. :/
It's a nice effect, but the ringing is nothing compared to Ravenshield's flashbang effect.

If you have RvS, have someone flash you. make sure you have your sound turned up to where the sound is realistically loud.

That flashbang will make your ears bleed.

:frown: Hell yeah, it really makes a screeching sound. RvS has some good sounds in it by the way :E
