I have a Maxtor 6Y080MO hard drive (80 gigs, SATA), and every five startups or so, windows has to run checkdisk on startup.
Two things happen when it runs checkdisk. It either has to orphan object.map and index.map or it has to restore attributes to several different file segments. Once it does that, windows XP starts up and runs normally.
I have run Norton disk doctor and according to it, the problem lies with the security descriptors. More specifically, there are problems in the master file tables BITMAP attribute. Norton says it can fix it on boot up, but it when it tries to scan on bootup, it detects no problems and windows loads normally.
I have also run Powermax on my harddrive and no errors were detected on the advanced test. So my question is, does anybody know what is wrong with my harddrive and how bad is it messed up? One last thing, I bought my harddrive at newegg OEM 6 months ago, so I have no warranty or RMA. Thanks for any help you guys could give me.
