has windows xp pro got a limit on the size of harddrive ? , i have just got a 160gb seagate barracuda and i have tried to install win xp pro on it but failed .
it seems to stop just after the checking system config part , please help

Technically, yes, but 160gb is far below its limit. Does it give an error, or just freeze up?

Yeah it's not the size of the hard drive giving you the problem cause Xp installed fine on mine and i have got a 320gb drive.
I think the Hard Drive limit is 2 Terabytes

the version of xp pro i have has no service packs included , i have found out that the limit in this version is 127 gb :(

create yourself a 10-15 gig partition for the system, install on it. then install the servicepacks. afterwards create one or two more partitions, it should be able to handle these then.

or just use partition magic to resize the partition after all the service packs....

i slpstreamed sp2 onto my version of win xp using nlite and it installed like a dream , but why does it only show 149 gb when it's a 160 gb drive ?

when you format a drive you loose space, I have a 80 gb and it show 74.5 gb in windows.

Is your PC old? Older harddrive controllers can't support past 127GB. But try to update to Windows XP SP1 at least or use the hard drive setup utility (on the manufactures website). I've used the Western Digital utility on my WD 500gb drives to set them up as they first read as 127gb.

Windows should say your 160gb drive (measured with regular numbers or base 10) has about 149gb of space (binary measurement). You don't loose space, it's just measured differently.
