Hi guys, my dads buying me a photon elitegroup motherboard for a 64-bit AMD this christmas, whilst I'll buy the actual processor. Just wondering, if you have one of these processors, How smoothly does the game run (not frame rate, but if the games stutters) and how quick do the levels load. Thank you for time, Death

The stuttering is a game bug, I don't think it has much to do with the power of your setup. I have no stuttering at all, yet I have seen people with much higher spec machines complain of it.

Loading times are also rather CPU indipendant. For loading times, you are looking for a fast HDD and decent RAM primarily.

Either way, any 64bit AMD is more than enough to run HL2 with all settings on high (Assuming you have an equally good system) and once Valve release a 64 bit version (Don't hold your breath) the game will run even faster.

Besides, if people did come here and say "Nooo, AMD 64 is not good enough", what else are you going to get? Intel? (Spits) AMD 64's are the best out there.

My system is really nice, its probably due to the fact I have an X800 but still, the chip is reallly nice and its got good load times for me. Mine is the Low end 3000+ and its OC'd to 2.35GHz and it runs stable, I have a huge ass Heatsink, with about 4 case fans. But still, it runs sweet. I recommend AMD64's all the way !!!

yep 64 3000+(939) is BEST BUY , buying some soon.
and 6800 GT. :)

754 chip, DFI board and i run great. maybe 10 seconds to load a level from nothing. at least i think that's running great...

i have a 754 3400+ and im never going to buy an intel chip again in my life. No problems whatsoever (of course im also running 2 gigs of corsair xms and an x800xtpe).

I have an FX-53, Asus A8V motherboard, BFG 6800 Ultra OC video, Audigy 2. The game still stutters. In most places it is mild. Still, Half-Life 2 is awesome on this machine. Actually, every game is awesome.

Yeah, I have a VERY similar setup, except w/out the X-800 (I have a 9600XT, which is a definite chokepoint)l It is still a kickass system tho (imo). To the thread poster, you cannot go wrong with an AMD-64, and as a bonus for HL2 fans, HL2 runs REALLY DAMN GOOD on the beta of Windows XP X-64 edition. My load times are 4 seconds or so, and no stutter (which is NOT true on my stardard XP boot). It is well worth the time to get it running on X-64 if you have a spare drive/partition to dual boot with (I would not trust a beta version of Windows to anything else tho) :p

I'm currently running an 3400 754 and a X800xt and it plays perfectly, no problems here, not even a stutter.

Im running my new A64 and it runs great.

-AMD64 3200+ 2.2 Ghz
-Abit KV8 Pro
-1 Gig PDP pc3200
-PNY Verto GF 5200 ultra FX

I average about 80+ fps. One time I looked plainly at the ground with no weapons or HUD and i got 298fps ;)

i'm running an amd 64 3000+ and it runs very nicely....i want to know more about windows xp 64 bit version though....any good?

anybody know if theres gonna be any motherboards with PCIe and support
athalon 64

First post

What? You mean like this or this...

By the way, my Athlon 64 does very well and it's OCed slightly. :)

Runs nice, even works great with XP 64 Bit Edition :) Though a bit slower due to it being all BEta :(

But that MB you dad is buying..YIKES ! Not my idea of a good long term choice :(

hey, with those SLI motherboards do you gotta have 2 gfx cards

You only need one PCI-Express graphics card (not AGP). You canadd the same model/brand card later to use in an SLI configuration later.

if you don't want to SLI, save some money and don't get an SLI board. A base nforce4 is around $50 while and SLI board is around $200.

thanks, I'm building a computer and wanted a 64 bit and PCIe.

first it will run like crap...
then, in 3 minutes it will explode you computer

that's what happened to my computer
