All I can say is that if you love action games and also love games with comepletely engrossing and compelling storylines, then this is the game for you. God of War was a great great game, but this outdoes it in every way, shape, and form. I have only played for 2 hours or so, but in that time I have seen and done some of the most amazing things I have ever done in a videogame. I won't mention exactly how the first couple of hours plays out at the risk of spoiling the awesomeness, but rest assured, this game will make you believe that God of War II is one of the top 10 console games of all-time. Go get it!!!

Sounds awesome. Have you run into any puzzle areas? If so how are they?

I have to get it this week, this might be the last great game for the PS2...

There have a been a few puzzles and they are so far along the lines of puzzles from the first one, but they are presented in slightly different fashion--One of them in particular is very cool (looking) and involves a dead body, but that is all I will say about that. ;)

The whole game is set up as many small puzzles built into the one big puzzle of the larger plot. Each enemy you kill brings you closer to figuring out what you need to do to solve the current puzzle and bring you closer to solving the whole game puzzle as a whole. Its an incredibly well-developed game and the flow and pacing is unparalleled in the action-adventure genre. Few titles can pull off such immersive and compelling gameplay that makes you crave more and more all the while providing consistent jaw-dropping/holy sh1t! moments of gaming bliss.

i watched gamespot's vid review today, cant wait to get it...

im urging my friend that owns a PS3 to buy/rent this
i absolutely loved the first one

Going to pick it up at work, on friday.

Played it at a friends house today. Its awesome. Krato's ****ing rules.

Definately going to... acquire it one way or another

Can't ****ing wait.

Wow--just beat the Barbarian King last night before bed and I must say that so far the puzzles (which have gotten better even in the last hour of play) and the fighting and the story is all 110% kick-ass!! The scale of everything is much bigger than the first one. I just wish more games could be this good!!!

Watched the video review on IGN...and wow, i must admit, this is the Gears Of War of the PS2. For the PS2 those graphics look ***king insane. Its like prince of persia meets...steroids???

And i must admit i was actually jaw-dropping and going '***king hell' and 'wow' when i was watching those boss scenes (which yes is just pressing the right button at the right time and looks like a cut-scene), but bloody hell, the animations, smoothness and COOLNESS looks insane.

Worth a look if you have a ps2, possibly THE last 'best game' for the platform???

I love the game, there are tons of amazing jaw dropping scenes and some of the most brutal kills I've ever seen. And there's a lot of powers, weapons, and relics to find, and each one I've found so far is new and exciting (but the first secondary weapon is kind of useless). I'm a the Atlas part (don't want to spoil it) and the only problem I have is that there are too many bosses; it gets a little tiring. The puzzles are really great, though.

Played it at a friend's house yesterday for a while. The combat is still too simplified (2 combos to rule them all) and the game is still too easy. The graphics look pretty much the same as GoW1 from what I remember but the plot seems to be pretty cool. Even though it seems like it parallels a lot with the first in terms of structure it seems like it'll be kinda cool.

I'll rent it when I get back home. Probably not worth the purchase to me.

Just beat it for the first time.

I clocked in at 10:30...but some people are somehow clocking in at like 16 hours on the same difficulty. It's not that I rushed through the game - I found all the health/mana upgrades and most of the urns...but I just don't know what could take them another 5.5 hours :|

Like I had said before, combat is too easy, the plot is nice because I like Greek mythology. Kratos still annoys me and I spent most of the game wishing Kratos would lose in the end or would see that he's being a retard.

Anyways - There are 3 sub-weapons in the game. I think the Blades of Athena are boring and too easy to use so I decided to not upgrade them at all in the game. I liked the first sub-weapon, so I upgraded it as much as possible right away and ONLY used it. I was holding out for something a little more fun (and something you could dodge with) but I skipped over the 2nd sub-wep (didn't like the way it handled and it felt a little off) and decided to just save all my orbs for the 3rd and just drop my tens of thousands of orbs into it right when I got it figuring I already knew what it was going to be... Well that never happened and I was forced to use the blades at the very last part of the final battle so I dropped my orbs into it to fully upgrade it so it didn't take me ages to finish off the final boss with piddly lvl 1 blades.

Speaking of the final boss. It is WAY too easy for my taste. Don't even get me started on the one before it - if anybody dies on that boss they are mentally handicapped. Both bosses practically spoon-feed you health and it really takes away the climax of the game.

So since I ended with a maxed out 1st sub-weapon and maxed blades, I think I might go through on bonus play (play the same or lower difficulty with the same equipment - booo) just to what the spells and other weapons look/handle like after actually leveling them.

Amish: So what would you give it in terms of a grade on a scale of 1.0 - 10.0?

I still have to finish it but I will respond to your comments whenever I do. I only just got to the Temple of the Fates the other night (stupid social life getting in the way of my gaming!).

8.0 or something.

Pros (in order):

+++ Greek mythology background & epic scale make me want to learn more about the plot and game world.
++ Some of the more exciting scenes/battles were pretty cool.
+ Some good puzzles.

Cons (in order):

--- Combat too easy, repetitive, boring. I found myself using one combo 98% of the time on the only weapon I actually liked (with one plot-related exception - you don't really get to use this other weapon much).
-- Greek mythology setting feels used just so Kratos can kill any/every mythological character designers bring in.
- A short game(10.5 hours first run collecting almost everything - missed 1 urn) with no good incentive to go back and play again (costumes? no thanks).

I'm aware that the combat in the first one wasn't the deepest I'd ever seen, but it offered enough room for twisted creativity that I had a tough time putting it down. So I'm eagerly awaiting this games arrival from Gamefly.

I got it also, and it is THE best game I have ever played! I would give it seriously a 10 out of 10. Everything is just meant to be there and the bosses are just right (I played it on hard first) and I have played the hell out of the Callenge of the Titans (I got Titan rank overall in them) and only need two more costumes (working on it in Titan mode). This game is just one of those games that you just need to buy!
