Deus Ex: Invisible War - the demo was utter arse. Horrible to play. BUT was this just the demo? A lot of the reviews have been very good, so I'm confused. If not worried that they've been paid off by Ion Storm... Just wondering if anyone had actually played the game a-proper and could give an opinion?
Cheers

Well I likes the demo and I really like the game. It is just a matter of personal like or dislike, Yeah the AI needs to be worked. I really likee he game play and the lighting effects are very good.
Its not the best game ever made but its not the worst.

I'm not exactly back. I'm home from uni this weekend and back for X-Mas next so I'll be back-ish. But I don't know how much because all those "Oooh, Valve is my abusive father/the priest who touched me during confession" people are really getting on my thru'pennies. Pretty bloody intolerable. So unless there's summat interesting to discuss or some new news <crosses fingers> then I dunno...

And DX2's only out in the US. Not in Europe until like Feb :hmph:

people always forget CANADA....

:O

It's out in NA right now...there that's better.

I dunno why so many people disliked the demo, personally I found it loads of fun :)

I've been playing Deus Ex in preparation to get DX:IW for Christmas (hopefully), I'm about 1/5th through the game.. never played it before, alot of fun :)

My first time through the demo was utter trash... luckily, there are tweaks that can be made in the configuration files that improve the mouse-lag thing (they put that on intentionally! What the Hell...) and overall performance. So I played it through a second time (and forcing myself to play on 800x600 resolution), and I really enjoyed it! The infared biomod is awesome! Also, the way certain objects in the environment get destroyed by stray bullets adds a lot to the fire fights (example: accidently hit one of the gas barrels and they start rolling around, spewing poisonous gas everywhere... or just the stuff that catches on fire). I think I'll wait until my Chrsitmas break to buy this bad boy, and I hope there's an official performance patch out by then.

Has more freedom of choice than the fisrt, and
less micromanagement. This gives you more time
to think about the choices you have to make. The new
weapons upgade and the biomods systems can be
configured to fit your desired playing style(stealth is possible).

Good game

Okay, you started me off with choices. What’s so good about those choices if they mean/accomplish absolutely nothing. There is no motivation in the game, in these choices, because when you backstab Order/WTO, you always can come back. You can do almost every mission for Order or WTO at the same time. After finishing the game, I felt like I accomplished nothing in this game. These choices lead to the same conclusion, just an illusion. Bioware does the same thing a lot too. I yet to play a game where your choices really meant something, beyond “Here, I give you biomod canister”.

Well when I played the demo, I didn't think it was that great, but it was enjoyable and I think the people who were badmouthing it weren't perhaps justified. I don't know, I guess it's a matter of opinion. I would go out and buy it but I don't really have the cash so I guess i'll just have to miss out.

Dues EX 2 is great. I downloaded the demo and hated do to its consoleyish feel, but I trusted gamespy's review and bought it anyway. The beginning isn't that fun because it feels fairly unrealistic, but the more you progress the more powerful you become (biomods and weapon modifiers). Right now my character is a kind of a Jedi/Ninja he can leap 20 feet in the air and one hit kill people with his dragon's tooth sword. Pretty cool if I do say so myself.

and thats more realistic? :p

Errrr, well I was able to jump high (oh yeah and run 20 miles per hour) because of a biomod. I think when I said realism I meant the amount of damage you do to characters.

I've been playing DX 2 for roughy four hours, all I can say is "Yowza!"
I love this game! The interactivity, the graphics, the plot development - All top-notch.

Same thing can be said about life IMO
Its not the destination, its how you get there.

Yes, but at least in life you are doing what you like. Here, all 13 hours, I didn’t like any choices I was forced to make. Plus in real life choices affect your life, in Deus Ex 2 they do not. Only the last level you could choose something, but it was too late for me, illusion was broken.

surprisingly.... it's great... even though nothing from the demo has changed i must say it is 100 times better than b4

i've arranged to get a copy on import just to see if you lot are lying about it actually being good. i still have my doubts but i'm willing to give it a go. costing me a bomb to get it sent over to the UK though.

I watched the video review on IGN, and I'd say it looks pretty nice. Haven't played it at all yet though.

One point they stress is that it shouldn't be evaluated as a shooter because it's more of an RPG...

well from what i've heard from the 'real' reviews, DX2 is trying to be more of an FPS than an RPG. in fact they've dispensed of any rpg elements save for a couple of discussion options and the biomods (which aren't even a scratch on the first game). of course this is all coming from someone who's played it in the states, i'll wait till i get my version before saying anything. doesn't sound very good though does it?
