I've been after a new mobile for around 6 months now as my current phone is getting slightly old so here's what i've finally decided on.

It Has a video player, mp3 player, FM Radio, 1.3mega pixel digital camera, 240 x 320 pixel display and xhtml browser. Here's a short video of the phone in action.

that's pretty badass how the numbers fold out... i'd let that phone bob on it...

decent features but the keys are in all the wrong places. it would get cumbersome and annoying most of the time i reckon.

can't really fault it. except it isn't the best looking phone. you'll also want to invest in a bigger memory stick. 32mb goes just like that.

it's not badly priced either. you gonna get it with a contract or stick your own sim in there?
 
oh.... forgot to mention the s700i can do 3d games that piss all over the ngage's abilities!

You haven`t used ngage did you?

and that siemens phone is crap.... came out a year ago... only has a 0.3 mega pixel camera against the s700i's 1.3 mega pixels and doesnt have a photo flashlight which the s700 does... screen is half the size of the s700... the games the s700 plays are fully 3d whilst the siemens only features 2d java... I could go on! :) From what i can see the s700 supports all of that siemens phones features and more!
 
with all those features i woulnt actually use my phone to phone anyone lol :)
 
If someone phones me whilst im in a game i would porbably just ignore them and continue with the game! :p

you can`t distinguish a smartphone from a simple phone don`t you ;)

no, s700 can`t play ngage games, cause they are all written for symbian series 60 (not to mention that they need far more processing power and memory than s700i can handle) whilst the s700i has just java and mophun support. What makes sx1 cooler is it`s open OS. Which is also "heavier" and more cpu/memory demanding. Needless to say sx1 has a more powerful CPU and more RAM since it needs those more than s700i or any other simple phone.
If camera is THAT important to you (I didn`t know camera was SO important thing on a phone...) you can go for s700i however I prefer features over camera soooo ;)
So, in other words, s700i hasn`t even half of the features of sx1 (or a smartphone).


Oh, and, you SHOULD trust that review `cause I wrote it! :devil:

I can`t understand while ppl keep comparing smartphones with non-smartphones :)

More ram? sx1 has 4mb onboard s700 has 32mb onboard. The only thing the sx1 has over the s700 is its smart phone capabilities. Not something im arsed about.

thats not ram, this is the integrated memory. Sx1 has 16MB ram of which like 6 are used by the OS on startup. s700 has unknown ram. anyways, it also uses MSduo cards which are more expensive (and rare) than MMC cards.
You can get a 1GB mmc for 110 euros while with 140 you get a 512MB MSDuo

the "only" thing is smartphone capabilities. is that so simple ;)
I assume you know what makes "sx1" a smartphone. You can do whatever with it. Install an answering machine, a call filter, a mms camera spy, an antitheft app, html browser (you can still surf simple html pages wit s700i browser-but we are talking about opera here!), icq, msn, aim etc clients, IRC clients, how about controlling winamp & wmp via bt?, or use the guitar tuner to tune your guitar, watch high quality videos at 25fps? or xvid videos?, reading pdf or doc docs? or a dictionary?, or an app that plays background sounds when you call someone so you can fool him like you`re stuck on traffic or whatever you can image...
hm and...
what about a mini http server?
an ftp client?
a zip manager?
a mod player? (.mod .xm etc)
or a gameboy color emulator?

and have you ever played mozzies? coolest mobile game out there (screenshots in that review)

just to mention a few things you can do with it... :P
 
if i wanted a smartphone i would buy a nokia 6600 which is a superior phone to the sx1... but alas i dont! :P

of course it is, more bulky, no mp3 player, no mmc hotswap (everytime you want to change the mmc you need to turn it off, remove the battery cover then the battery then the mmc), made of cheap plastic (sx1`s covers ONLY cost like 120E) hm... what else... yeah old fw full of bugs, problem with unicode in SMS. they corrected the latter and some bugs in the latest fw but now sending sis and java apps/games files through bt, ir etc is not allowed and many many more which are enough for everyone to stay away from the upgrade. just to add some more, sx1 has a bit bigger display and a radio (<--useless for me :D )

I prefer my phone to just be a phone, not a phone/games system/text msg/video cam/image cam/small car

Soo I got an old one, allthough that looks like a nice phone Matt.
 
I have a Sony j70e, but everytime i recharge it after i bought a new battery i have to reset the clock/date to what it was before for some reason. i only use phone for text and calling, so i really want a Nokia 8310, one on ebay looks in good nick for 20+ quid.
Is that worth it? I really like the phone, but wasn't there some sort of technical problem with them, and half of them not working?
i dont know wether to get it or not.

Edit : i'd only get a camera phbone when its 3+ megapixel, but 5... wow.
 
Ive always wanted a decent phone, a decent MP3 player, a nice mobile gaming device with large screen, mobile internet device and a decent digital camera... whats nice is that this device combines all of those in one package. :)

sx1 may be a decent smartphone with a decent mp3 player but i dislike its much smaller screen and rather average camera. Ive said before i dont need a smartphone and i doubt i could stomach that keypad either... :P

If you like windows CE based mobiles you might want to chck out the orange SPV M1000. I would have probably bought that had it not been orange only with orange livery plastered all over it. Shame as its a nifty piece of kit otherwise. Either that or a P910 for a symbian 60 mobile

The one I suggested would be perfect for you then! :P But it won't be coming to the States or Europe for at least 3 or 4 months...but it is coming out in Korea next month.Only problem I see with it is that it seems a little "big". ;(

i've owned a few... i like em :P my mate has a p910 and he's happy with it!
