MSI have just released information regarding thier Nforce 4 platforms including pictures of thier upcoming K8N Diamond and K8N Platinum4 boards. Ive just noticed that at least one of the pictures MUST be a photoshopped picture because of some irregularities in them.

If you have a tabbed browser open up the following images in seperate tabs and flick between them.

The first thing that came to my attention is that fact that the northbridge fan looks exactly the same on both boards. When i say that i mean look at the MSI logo on the fan. Its in the same position. As is the fan wire which is bent in exactly the same way! This proves that both pictures were originally a single board One of the pictures was then replicated and photoshopped to look like a different board design!

Both these images are making thier way around the tech review sites such as anandtech. Why would MSI do this? Do companies regularly falsify information in press releases?

I think the Diamond is faked. Looks very choppy. I also don't trust the pin which touches the fan. Suspicious indeed.

yes, its photoshopped, you can tell just from flipping between them.

why? its not illegal, it may be they dont have a working prototype, and just to show people what they look like they photoshopped it. they should be open about it though.

the diamond is deffinitely faked, if you look like an inch to the right of the fan along those parellel white linds there is the shadow from a capacitor that is in the platinum, but the problem is in the diamond the capacitor is gone but its shadow isnt!

Yes it does look like its done in photoshop but If you look closely th light hits the board different in the kiamond on then the neo 4
thats an easy effect to do, theres so much exactly and rediculously similar that it rules that out.

Its not that common afaik. That msi thing is pretty harmless but sometimes companies go too far. Like what amd and atari tried to pull with their shadowops screenshots http://www.pcper.com/image.php?aid=&img=amdComparison.jpg
The '64 bit enhanced' shots are on high quality settings, while the 32 bits are on low quality and the difference is almost nothing to do with 32/64bit. I was disappointed when i saw that, seems amd are taking advice from nvidia or something

Not sure but it doesn't matter. You should really ask those who took the photo.

fake? i don't think that's an issue. maybe that's a proof of concept image? have they at any point claimed they are photographs?

and i don't understand the comment about companies 'regularly falsifying' images for press releases. tell me where it's a written law that a company has to provide a genuine photograph when introducing a product to the public. they're well within their right to show you an image, as long as it's accurate to the finished product. when you get your hands on an nForce4 mobo, compare the images, and if they're different, get in touch with your solicitor and start the ball rolling.

i don't think you should be splitting hairs to be honest, not worth the effort.

The goal of these images is to show consumers what the end product will be. I'm sure, if you order the diamond, that they're not going to send you a photoshop image.

the lightning seems a tiny bit different in each one. If you switch back and forwards you'll notice it. But yeh, it could have easily been changed.
