This is concerning downloading files from Planet. During downloading the 2004 vid of HalfLife, I would get Half-Way through downloading the vid, then for some strange reason I would be sent to the back of the queue, Why?

Then quite recently, I decided to download a 1Kb Total Annihilation (Yep, I still play it) unit file. To my astonishment, the estimated queue time was 94 minutes ;( . In the new age of broadband, this wait time should be a mere 5 minutes at most. Hell, even a 512 Kb internet connection would take mere seconds to download that.

Although, I have to say this has only occured recently and had no problems downloading HalfLife vid 2003, which had around 90 mins queue time (understandable considering it was a 700Mb download).

I'm just wondering if anybody else has had this problem.

You can pay for a subscription like me and get no wait lines for files (and free games too).

Its not so much a problem, its just the way things are. Perhaps if file planet got a plethora of new hosting servers it would make things better, but that would probably mean higher subscription charges, or charges for more things...

Anyway, yeah I've had instances where stupidly small files are behind a queue longer than...a very long thing.

Never use fileplanet... I stopped using it because of the long lines.

Blah, I love you man but I gotta say it:

SUCKER!

i like to use fileplanet, because it automatically starts downloading once you have waited in line. i only use it for big files- too, so i can leave it overnight. Like i downloaded the 2 GIG SWG trial in a night :)

the only problems i have had is when there is a network error and the download stops/ que is disrupted, but if you had started downloading the file you can pick up from where you left off with no waiting times. big bummer if it happens when you are 1/9999 in the que though...

but it rarely happens. it happened to me about 3 times, thats it (and i use it a lot).

you all wud be suprised if i had said, i havnt yet seen the e3 2004 hl2 demo video, its true!

i blame fileplanet, i downloaded it one time, 650mb , 99%, ERROR , cannot download again, tried again, 99%, pROBLEM AGAIN!

if anyone has a different link like jolt or something with the hl2 e3 2004 demo vid, i would really appreciate it

Download it somewhere else?

If you have the money, the i don't see a problem with subscribing really...People i know who have done it are happy with it :)

i think thats because some your connecting (east usa server) for example, and people are queuing up for different files, not the same files as you,so your just in queue to download, no matter wat size.

lol, I'm sure thats what Sam Fisher said after I got Splinter Cell for free when I subscribed.

When I pay money for something, I try to get my money's worth. I've had this fileplanet subscription thing for 4 months now and I have downloaded over 20 GB's of stuff off of fileplanet. Before my subscription runs up, I plan on pillaging the fileplanet serves for all its worth. ;) (that means I won't be re-subscribing)

Download it somewhere else. You see, Fileplanet decided not to use different servers for different things. So, you may have the HL2 Vid and the SWG trial on the same server. The line time is the line for the server, not the actual download, unlike other loacations. So, you are waiting for the SWG and HL2 people to finish both of their downloads, regardless of what you want to download. :E Hope that helps.

The only problem I ever have is it deciding that it took me too long to realize that I'm done waiting in line, so it cancels me. ;(
