Have you heard of the Deep Web and the Hidden Wiki?

It's not a good place.

It's really just CP and stuff.

91,000 terabytes of child porn. Incredible.

I have no use for most of the information on the real web let alone some deep web. If the stuff on the deep web was of any use to me it wouldn't be there all hidden.

I was getting all prepped up to do some exploration until I stumbled upon links to assasinns. BRB, someone knocking on door.

That is a remarkably disappointing search engine.

It's like the ruins of old new york beneath new new york.

Why did you post a forum where I buy my supplements?

Don't go there. It's full of the porn that you hope that nobody ever finds.

I'm afraid to click any of these links after reading the first two replies. I'm also cautious because Jerry posted two links to a body building site as sources. Seriously, what? Is there no better source you can link to than a body building forum? Thats even worse than hl2.net.

The internet has a LOT of stuff on I CAN find andI DON'T want to see... I'll don't need to seek it out.

I feel like I'm missing something because everybody's reactions seem over the top. It's just basically another internet that has all sorts of illegal and non-cataloged materials, right? Why does this blow so many people's minds?

You really shouldn't be going on Tor. While .onion domains are safe, encrypted, etc and you can't really be traced, it's still not safe. If you do go there for whatever reason make sure to use NoScript and disable javascript, flash, <frame>, etc. Creepy shit.

Because of the content on it. There are sites that deal with assassinating people, and some people have claimed that there is really dark stuff on there such as underground groups that kill people and sell organs. Not kidding.

It appears the bodybuilding forum that I linked to has a lot of members who post there ironically and are in no way bodybuilders. I first discovered the topic today on reddit by some deep web spelunkers... here are some actual instructions on how to navigate it:

http://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearn..._about_the_deep_web_what_it_contains_and_how/

edit: also, if your webcam blinker turns on or camera starts moving around by itself, GET OUT.

Well the latter would be dark and disturbing, but not really the assasination thing. People don't really hide talk of that sort of thing on the conventional internet... it's just done in a less blatant way. Even if it were blatant, it wouldn't be that shocking since people think that shit all the time... though actual planning is fairly rare i would imagine.

The organ thing sparks a morbid curiosity.

Well you can already legally buy books on how to make explosives and be a child molester (there was a thread about it), so I'm sure theres books on assassination.

I have always harbored suspicions that there was a deeper net beyond the reach of search engines, but this is astonishing. Very nice.... Very nice indeed.

Although I wont be going on the Deep Net on my computer since the gov does a pretty good job of monitoring sites, but Im still intrigued.

Isn't this the thing a lot of the rebelling citizens used to communicate while hiding their identities from their governments in the middle east and whatnot?

So after doing a little more reading I've been led to believe that it's pretty much just the remnants of the old way the web infrastructure worked - so it's always been fairly huge and un-indexed, and has been monitored / known about for quite some time. What's being blown out of proportion is the alarmist notion that this particularly disgusting "wiki" and the circuits which provide illegal services are the bulk of the "invisible" web. In reality, that type of content only makes up a small fraction of the traffic and activity within these gigantic and lesser-known webspaces.

A lot of information in scientific journals counts as "deep web" as the majority of articles are behind login/password barriers, apart from their abstract.

Slightly disappointing, but still very interesting. I never thought that MILNET and other private/government networks connected to the internet. I thought they were on an entirely different web... a cyber plane of existence if you will.

This however, does explain how North Korean hackers have been able to seriously **** up our defense and financial network infrastructure.

so can I buy human meat on this deep web?

I came across this a few weeks ago, creepy ass shit.

Wait, do any of the links that have been posted contain anything bad or just information about the deep web? I don't want to click anything that has a bunch of illegal shit or could harm my computer.

Its really not wise to spent much time exploring the deep web unless you are quite confident in your abilities to protect and anonymize yourself from threats you may encounter there. It's not the domain of normal internet users.

Most of it is smut and trash, all kinds of horrific porn and CP stuff and whatnot. A lot of it is also filesharing that is on a much more incognito level. My experience with the deep web mainly comes from drug-related stuff... there are a lot of underground private drug-related communities where members trade drugs with one another, buy/sell drugs and pharmaceuticals. Also foreign-based prescription drug stores and the like where you can get them to mail you anything from ketamine to steroids. I don't **** with it myself but a few of my internet friends (and one or two of my RL friends) are involved in some of those sorts of places.

ZT none of those links will harm you. If you click through to the hidden wiki though and beyond you are in enemy territory. The government monitoring what you connect to is the least of your worries. Going through one or two or three proxies isn't really going to help you either. I hate to contribute to the whole mystical aspect of the deep web but there are some seriously terrifying, capable and malicious predatory hackers out there.

They're just normal Wikipedia articles and bodybuildings threads on it.

Screenshot posted in that body-building forum thread:

I've seen videos of guys cutting off their own dicks, and that's not even half as disturbing as that shit.

Luckily the hidden wiki and stuff like that screencap you posted is mostly 4chan type wankers just stroking their anonymous dicks. I'd be willing to bet just about anything that the author of that particular article has never and will never hurt or kidnap a child or anyone else... probably just someone that fantasizes about it.

While there is some really gruesome and disgusting shit like pedophilia on the deep web, you aren't going to access it through the hidden wiki. That kind of stuff is much deeper and almost impossible to find without help.

The reddit and bodybuilding threads linked to about this are all very hyperbolic. The vast majority of the deep web is totally innocuous, and a lot of the rest is just good ol' filesharing. Only a tiny amount of it is at all malevolent or revolting or dangerous.

Click through to the hidden wiki though and beyond you are in enemy territory.

Uhh, was the "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.onion" link Babyheadcrab posted the hidden wiki?

No, all .onion site addresses are 16 bit hashtags that end in .onion, for example 313ake9e4bb6we7w.onion (made up)

That link is just to the wikipedia article about the .onion psuedo TLD.

The link to the hidden wiki will only work if you are using tor and it's midway through the OP of the second thread on the bodybuilding forums that was linked to in the first post of this thread here.

I hate to rain on your parade but, it's only three hyperlinks away from the reddit page that Jerry posted. The screenshot of the hidden wiki shows that there are sections devoted to underage material. Don't get on the hidden wiki though, it'll link you to pages that you don't want to go to.

I mean you aren't going to access the private pedophile rings / communities that exist in secret that I was talking about via the hidden wiki. I'm getting the impression you didn't read my posts in this thread too closely. Obviously there is stuff related to underage crap and other illegal activities referenced and compiled on the hidden wiki but to get to the real shit, the real rings of CP and drug trade and all that, you aren't going to get there through the hidden wiki because the hidden wiki is essentially newfag stuff w/r/t the nasty side of the deep web. These things are hidden for a reason. Knowing about the hidden wiki isn't really any more special than knowing what 4chan is... the real meaty and scary stuff of the deep web that this thread is about isn't something you are going to find by following links on what is essentially a newfag's portal to the deep web.

That being said you could still get into some trouble by browsing around the hidden wiki so don't think that means it's any kind of safe sandbox. You will still find insanely objectionable stuff on there and linked to from there.
